Another MX Revolution user here. Picked it up on sale for $40-50 a few years ago and I've had absolutely no complaints, and I love the scroll wheel. Been thinking about picking up another one so I can use it at work too. Is there anything majorly different between the MX Rev and the Performance MX? They look pretty similar at first glance, haven't looked too much at the Performance MX though since my Revolution is still going strong.

Sointenly posted:Also, for those of you who have this mouse... do you use the "smart scrool" or just manually change the scroll? Smart scroll all the way, I like the ratcheting feel when making small motions but it's really easy to flick it for free scroll when needed. I think my MX Rev might be finally showing its age, as my left-click has started to occasionally drop if I press with normal click pressure. Only really matters when dragging something, and on occasion it'll register a slow single click as a double, but it comes up enough that it's a minor annoyance. Pressing harder seems to keep it pressed 100% of the time, so I'm thinking it's the click switch mechanism starting to go. This is after ~3 years of moderate to heavy use including gaming, is that a normal lifespan for an MX Rev?

alien8 posted:I figure that if I get 3 years of fairly heavy use out of my Revolution, I'll be pretty happy with that. I do have a question for you, though. What are your charging habits like? Do you throw it on the charger every night, every couple of nights, or do you wait for it to get low before you charge it. I've never had a mouse with non-user-replaceable batteries before, and I'd like to maximize the life of the unit. The dock is nice and convenient, and I keep mine in arm's reach so basically anytime it's down even one bar (out of 3) I throw it on to charge overnight. This usually happens once, sometimes twice a week. I have no idea what's supposedly optimal for the battery type though.

I'm thinking a new mouse for Christmas would be nice, so I need a little input on what to get. Currently a loyal MX Revolution user, but with it at $100 now I'm looking at other options. The MX1100 looks really good to me - in fact, it looks nearly identical. It has the same sort of contour which I like, and the frictionless mode on the scroll wheel. As far as I can tell, the differences seem to be: MX Revolution: + Dock charger ~ That thumb wheel I never use but is kinda neat I guess - $50 more expensive MX1100: + Price ~ Adjustable DPI though I'd probably use that as much as I used the thumb wheel (never) - AA batteries Is that about right? Also, I'm looking to build a new system sometime in the near future, and planning on going Win7 64-bit. Are there any issues with using SetPoint and/or UberOptions on that setup?

Blobfish posted:Not sure about the other ones, but if you middle-click to open links in tabs a lot, don't get this mouse. For some reason, Logitech decided to poo poo on this one by making the scroll wheel switcher (to switch from free-flow scrolling to click scrolling) analog instead of digital. This means that you have to use the button behind the scroll wheel to switch modes, and you can't configure it as a middle-click like with the MX Revolution. So you have to use the scroll wheel to middle-click, which is annoying as gently caress because it's so touchy and just doesn't feel right. I switched to Apple's Magic Mouse because of this and like it a lot better, but it'd probably be lovely for gaming. Really? I find that extra button to be in an awkward spot to use constantly. On my old MX Revolution and new MX1100 I use the scroll wheel as middle-click just fine, I can't imagine the Performance MX being that much different. Speaking of the MX1100, I'm quite happy with it. It delivers the same good feel of the MX Revolution, and for whatever reason it costs like half as much as an MX Rev, and considerably less than the Performance MX. The only thing that's taking some getting used to is the lack of SmartShift, but I'm learning to just use it in frictionless mode all the time. From what I hear not a lot of others used SmartShift anyway.

G502 is currently $40 on Amazon, I'm assuming that's a good deal?
