The G500 is the best mouse I've ever used, it's more or less a Frankenstein of most of the other Logitech Gaming mice:

Slightly altered mx518/g5 shape
Texture of g5 v1
5600dpi :clint:
Gear wheel with switch on top instead of bottom
3 thumb buttons
Tracks perfectly on cloth mouse pads unlike every laser mouse I've ever used.
Weight system if you care.

I bought a deathadder back when it first came out, It was the most comfortable mouse I've ever used, however it seemed to get somewhat warm all by itself, I would sit down on a cold day and it would be warm. I guess it is because of the infrared light or something, then the mouse wheel started squeaking. I've noticed they've since released a new version of it does anyone know if they fixed these problems, mainly the warming up problem (I have sweaty hands) I can always use some oil for the squeak problem.

The Middle click switch on the g500 is unbelievably lovely, I still love the mouse but I literally swiped the mouse with the side of my hand with barely any strength and it fell upside down onto a table about a foot lower than the top of my desk and it broke. Got a new one from logitech anyway but that kind of poo poo is somewhat shocking considering back in my younger days I flat out threw my mx510 at the wall with all my strength on multiple occasions and it still works.

I actually kind of preferred the Death Adder in comfort if we're strictly talking shape, both feel amazing but something about the DA. in terms of quality though the Logitech wins hands down for me, my Death adder's wheel started squeaking after about a month of use, and I went through 1 or 2 trying to flash the firmware or something, and even though I said they are comfortable, they seem to get hot, which hugely bugged me. they also feel like they are made with melted down McDonalds toys. Those mx518s were indestructible, I used one for 4 years then gave it away to a friend who is pretty abusive with his poo poo and it still kicking.

I've had one of these for a year and I've never had any problem with it. And even if it was, I sent Logitech an email about getting a replacement USB cable and their reply was them confirming that they mailed me a brand new one, they didn't even check if I have voided the warranty, hell they didn't even want the thing, I now have 2 of them.

It's shape kind of reminds me of the mx1000 actually, I know someone was asking about that. USB on the fly charging was a cool gimmick but I've just been letting the battery die and then swapping.

Are you saying you'd prefer to have your index on the LMB, middle on the wheel, and ring on the RMB? G9 is gonna be smaller than the mx518 was, it's seriously down right tiny. both the G500 and the G700 are bigger, slightly longer, slightly more arch, wider, more thumb rest etc then the 518s.

I feel you man the battery life in the G700 sucks, I love the poo poo out of the mouse, it feels great and has a poo poo load of buttons, but even running at 125mhz polling and like 400dpi with 2700mAh batteries it still is almost/completely dead after a full day of gaming or internet.

So I left my g700 somewhere so I broke out the old MX518. used it for maybe a week till I got my g700 back, True it has more thumb buttons and is wireless, but I still find myself with a mx518 plugged in. whats up with that?

Wish they would make a wireless version of the g400, I'd rather not have to pay suitcases full of cash just to get a g7 off ebay.

Also, since everyone is talking about warranty, my g700's completely optional wire for charging the battery went bad, I kind of liked it since it fit into the mouse so nicely, this was also before I started just swapping between 2 eneloops, so I contacted logitech asking if I could buy another one, thinking they'd be like yeah it's 5 bux or hell, since it's logitech, they'd just send out a free one. instead they were like "hey, we just sent out a brand new g700. just throw the old one in the garbage or something".

I'll give a hard plastic pad a try. Does anyone have any recommendations for a small one? Seems everyone is making them in cloth.

Those older lasers only ever worked on the plastic type mouse pads for me, I picked one up from best buy by this company rocketfish, has 2 sides and is pretty dope unfortunately it's not exactly small though. I had similar problems with my g5 mouse and my g9 non X version, yet both my g500 and g700 track just fine on my cheap cloth mouse pad.

So why did they do the switch from optical mice to laser? they never seemed any better, especially since both logitech and razer have optical mice still in production, what benefits does laser have over optical? I remember the first lasers being pimped as being able to track on any surface. Want to use your dog? go ahead! but in reality they could barely track on actual mouse pads and you had to go buy the plastic kind, and optical was already loving awesome and works on any surface that mattered anyway, Both the mx518 and the deathadder are more or less the respective best sellers for logitech and razer.

Has anyone tried out the Razer Taipan? seems like from the pics that it's build quality is higher than other razer mice, and I get the impression that it's of similar form factor and size to the Logitech G9 with the control grip. I like ambidextrous designs since I can push the opposite side buttons with my ring finger fairly comfortably, unless they're terrible, like the razer diamondback's were.

I don't know why Logitech is recently so obsessed with making their stuff look like Razer and Mad-Catz cyborg had some babies, but I can live with it. I also don't know why they seem to be actively not making a wireless version of the g400/s, instead we get the 602, which has nice stats, but I hate the design, and I don't need that many side buttons, hell I barely use the second thumb button. I miss old Logitech style buttons that had a plastic border around the LMB and RMB so when I bump into stuff it doesn't click. also it's nice to rest my middle finger to the right of the RMB but now, at least on the 602, you can't do that, well you can but there's no plastic so you'll be pushing the RMB a lot by accident. Among other thing this is why I dislike Razer mice.

I would gladly pay multiple dollars for a wireless g400 that is basically just a mx518 but wireless with the battery life of the 602.

Just picked up a G502 Spectrum because my 602's Mouse wheel has been acting up, and holy poo poo this is one hell of a mouse. Perfect shape, great buttons, not too many thumb buttons but not too few, cool lights, braided cloth cable but it's not stiff like the ones on their previous mice. my only con is that the wheel isn't rubberized, but they improved it in other ways such as having a more tactile click while scrolling than the other hyper scroll wheels offered, so I can look past that. Love the finish, thought I wouldn't like the textured rubber sides but turns out I love it. basically feels like an mx518 but better in basically every way. 5.5/5

Every time I decide I'm going to try something non logitech I just regret it. Even though I've had problems with a few logitechs, other mice just aren't as nice. I've gone through plenty of Razer mice with double click problems and squeaky as gently caress wheels, but they also just don't feel as well built as even an MX518, which I still own a few of, all perfectly functional. The only mouse I ever thought had a decent shape that wasn't razer was the Corsair m65 optical, but that isn't too much like a g500, more like a g9.

I have two naga owning friends and they're always telling me it's so much better than logitech mice, not that either of them have ever owned a logitech mouse that didn't come with a keyboard, I'm thinking its a case of flashy lights and thumb buttons applying rose tinted glasses. Sometimes I am amazed how far Razer got slapping lights and a decent sensor on absolute dog poo poo, I've honestly owned Fischer-price poo poo with better quality plastic.

What's the go-to mouse that has a switchable scroll wheel?

I've gone through two older model G502s, but both had problems when the wheel was locked. It's noticeable in games with inventory that's selected by scroll wheel: sometimes, the game wouldn't detect the scroll, and I would need to scroll again. It's a minor annoyance, but I'd like a mouse that doesn't have that problem that I can still switch to freescroll.

E: I should add that the problem was way worse before a firmware update. It used to occasionally scroll the wrong way. Now, it just skips sometimes.

The reason you're getting this is because most modern mice use an optical sensor for their wheels instead of a mechanical switch, the clicks are added for feedback and have nothing to do with the actual mousewheelup function so they often go out of sync; it sucks. Incidentally this could also be the cause of the guy with the MX Master problems, could be a dirty sensor, if you feel like taking the mouse apart.

edit: I see now that you are having a different problem so never mind, that's what I get for skimming.

Their customer service doesn't have a reputation for going above and beyond, either.

It's a tiny bit mushy on the basilisk ultimate compared to the g502 I came from, but I stopped noticing almost immediately, making an account to razer synapse was annoying for like 18 seconds and ever since I've not had a problem, still works fine even if I boot windows with no internet connection, compared to GHub it's practically streamlined. I've also had a couple of deathadders that had mouse wheels fall apart and a frankly underwhelming diamondback 3g and wanted to hate this mouse so much but I ended up loving it.
