Pulled my credit report this morning and I see 4 collection accounts that have been "closed". What exactly does that mean? I never reached a settlement with any of them. What is my best recourse here? How long do they stay on the report normally? Thanks!!

Regarding an old debt from a medical bill from 2008, the total amount of the debt is $1,286. What is a fair amount to offer to settle with a pay-to-delete?

Also, CubsWoo thank you so much for this thread. Your advice has been incredibly helpful and I'm am grateful to have you for advice! Last question for now: I sent a request for debt validation regarding a debt and never heard anything back. Do you have a form letter you use to tell a debt collector to drop everything and f-off? Thanks again!!
