we have an irc channel! if you like electronic music then come join the fun in #electronic on irc.synirc.com Howdy everyone, it's time for a new thread! This thread is for discussing all the various forums of electronic house music and related genres, such as: House, Electro, Electrohouse, Synthpop, Electropop, French House, Fidget House, Italo nu Disco, Discohouse, bloghouse bangers and much much more. What this thread is not for is: Trance, Drum & Bass, Dubstep, Industrial, as they all have their own threads. So you may be wondering, what exactly is house music? Well the name is up for debate as to the exact orgins of it, but all house music is characterized by an often simple 4/4 time signature with a bass drum and kick present throughout the entire track. It's that bass'n'kick that keeps us dancing. Oh and I forgot to mention, dancing is what this music is all about. The first thing coming to your mind is probably everyone's favourite Daft Punk. They were one of the main people in France in the late 90s and early 00s to bring commercial house music to North America. You and your dog should already be a fan of the fantastic robot duo, but there is so much more. If you are familiar with Daft Punk, chances are you are familiar with the following: Justice You've heard their 2007 masterstroke that is Cross, but you may not have known that they did the score for Dior Homme's 2009 Spring fashion show titled Planispheré. But enough of Daft Punk and Justice, we've all heard them over and over, what we want is bloghouse. Now bloghouse itself isn't really a genre, it's just the moniker used to describe where the track was discovered and first posted. You see, in the electrobloghousewhatever scene, normal distribution methods for artists are virtually non-existent unless you've got a real nice commercial record label behind your back, and a lot of these artists don't So without further adieu here are some links to aide you in your searches for good sounding tunes (or 'choons' as they are known): http://discodust.blogspot.com/ http://www.thefastlife.org/ http://www.asianmandan.com/ http://www.tracasseur.com/ http://deathelectro.com/ http://boardsofelectronica.blogspot.com/ http://popwreckoning.com/ http://redthreat.wordpress.com/ http://www.noiseporn.com/ http://www.voulesrandom.com/ http://awsmlctro.blogspot.com/ http://www.electrocasts.net/ http://cantstopthenoize.wordpress.com/ http://toomanysebastians.blogspot.com/ http://elbo.ws/ <--- absolutely must be bookmarked http://bangingbeat.blogspot.com/ <-- wonderful goon blog! http://tracksonthedaily.blogspot.com/ <-- another wonderful goon blog! This thread is for discussing and dissing new tracks that come out, reminscing of the tracks of yesteryear that made us dance so good, and for exposing those new to the genre to fun and danceable tracks. Personally, I am a huge fan of french house and Italo nu disco, two genres to emerged from France and Italy around 1996. They feature cheesy sweeping synths and filters with wonderful beats and unbelievable drops, so I will share for you some of my favorites/reposts from other threads. This is for talking and discussing the good tunes we love to dance to. No stupid bickering and godhelp Threatis if you poo poo up this thread I will have your head! also, talk about leaks but not where you got the leak, make sure if you post a track that it's legit, we dont want to have a problem on our hands. Also, this thread is not for discussing how cute or hot the electropop girls are, they're all good looking and that's the end of it! Also, please try and have content with your posts! don't just post a bunch of youtubes for us to listen to, give us a reason to hear it! I realize i did this in the OP but that's just a jumping off point! This is not a youtube dumping thread, I repeat, this is not a youtube dumping thread. Keep it about the music and discussion and refrain from posting just a youtube link to your favourite song, or chances are you will get probated! And yeah I usually tune in to Kissy Sellout's show and picked up his album. I found that his album had a lot of fodder tracks to it but they are all delightfully bangin'. I was actually surprised when Kissy played a track from Leonardus, a rather unknown but gaining in popularity french-filter-house producer from Holland who makes some of the best filter house I have heard since the Montmarte days. As far as I'm concerned disco is no where near dead, and Leonardus has revived it: Leonardus - Smile Man vs Child fucked around with this message at 21:53 on Dec 7, 2009 |

thanks for doing a new OP man, that last one was getting tired. house drum programming is a lot about the snare on the offbeats, a lot of times the snare will drive the song harder than the kick does. i dont think youre talking about the orchestra bass drum which would be really unusual, otherwise its the same thing as a kick

I'm sure everyone in here knows this guy but Vitalic released his second album this year which was exciting because it came out of nowhere (for me at least, I'm not too connected anymore) and I loved his 2005 debut 'OK Cowboy'. Here's my favorite track from that album, Repair Machines. New one is called Flashmob and here's the title track.

Here are some of my favourite artists/bands/producers/whatever that haven't been mentioned yet: Bestrack - This French guy has been making songs for his MySpace for a little while under the name Bestrack Productions, and he recently released an EP. He does some really awesome funky/disco/electro remixes, in particular this one made for a remix contest (which he won) for DatA's amazing track Rapture: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtPvrHl8jWo Chromeo - It's a band of a couple guys from Montreal (one of which is A-Trak's brother) who make some of the best funky, catchy retro tunes I've heard. They're noticably popular, and they have a whole bunch of releases. Maybe they belong in the Electro-Pop thread, but there are some sweet remixes of their tracks out there. Here's their song Bonafied Lovin' remixed by the French producer Yuksek: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYAZoTCkkPI Danger - The last thread started with posts about this guy. He's from France and mixes chiptunes, eighties movie-soundtrack music, and electro together to make something really cool. Here's his remix of Sebastien Tellier's song called Divine and link to the previous thread: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FwbsSdWh-U, http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=2711929 DatA - He's on the same label as Danger and makes French electro. I'm not sure how to describe his music without overusing the words "funky", "disco", "retro", and "electro", or comparing him with more popular French artists like Daft Punk and Justice. But it's really good! Here's a music video for one of the collaborations he did with Sebastian Grainger called One In A Million: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prSHsDIwNiw Feed Me - Apparently it's an alias for a dubstep producer based in the UK, under which he uses his heavy, dirty synths to make some really awesome electro house. I really know much about him, but I know he has some sweet remixes and killer tracks, like this one called The Spell: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6Cxq4_RCEs Felguk - I don't know much a lot this Brazilian producer-duo either, but I've loved every song I've heard by them. Also like Feed Me, their tracks seem to be more DJ-friendly, as opposed to the other bloghouse artists listed above. Check out their Daft Punk remix, which like their other stuff is glitchy and energetic and well-produced: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWlTt2quUwA MSTRKRFT - Pronounced "mastercraft", these considerably well-known guys are from Toronto and have produced a ton of tracks in their unique electro style. Here's the song that their latest album, Fist Of God, was named after: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYf_TwXb6D4 Wolfgang Gartner - This is another alias for another veteran producer. I haven't heard much of his older stuff, but his recent tracks are really amazing. They're typically really chopped-up and heavy electro house with little melodic bits and great production value. Here's his latest track, Fire Power: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bt4H7S0Yc_0 And here are some more tunes I love that would probably fit in this thread: The Bloody Beetroots - Have Mercy On Us http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSUDGB5VJgU Boys Noize - Jeffer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=074opL6l3vw DJ Mehdi - Signatune (Thomas Bangalter Edit) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sbTmLvL7fQ Kapture - Regeneration http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hS4k8YXyBc The Kills - Cheap And Cheerful (SebastiAn Remix) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1Z_KQ-G_xM Tesla Boy - Electric Lady http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omaoZfQN5cc Yuksek - So Down (featuring Chromeo) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKoQN9oT08k Zombie Nation - Radio Controlled (Hey Today Remix) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztEXbZib8vs Also, TheForgotton posted:this video

Why was there a new thread created? Electro-pop and house/techno/synth are sufficiently differentiated to warrant seperate threads. We all know this is just going to turn into a house re-re-re-re-mix thread. As a fan of electro-pop, I'm really not interested in looking through page after page of MSTRKRFT and Chromeo mixes... CHRISTS FOR SALE posted:Daft Punk are probably the single most influential group in electronic music, perhaps tied with Aphex Twin or Kraftwerk. Anyway, they're amazing but NOT the originators of house music in the least bit. They also were not responsible for bringing commercial house music to America, as it was actually INVENTED here (in Chicago to be exact), predominantly by gay black people. What they did originate was the performance of original House music with live instrumentation and sequencers. With this setup, Daft Punk moved past the boring world of DJing into some actual semblance of musicianship. Instead of pressing buttons and simply cueing up parts of their songs, they set up the whole performance in such a way that they could improvise almost anything. Oh don't get me wrong man, I am well aware of the origins of house music from wonderful chi-town soul to the new york paradise garage disco sound (RIP Larry Levan). I should have specified that Daft Punk was one of the first in north america to bring major commercial success with french house music. I obviously just chose Daft Punk as a starting off point for new people getting in to the genre since Daft Punk is most often the first group people start with when they begin their foray in to house music. Aside from the electronic New Wave movement of the 80s there was not much in terms of electronic house music (that compared to the success of Daft Punk) in North America until Daft Punk came along and garnered major commercial success. No need for us to get passive aggressive and bickering over where house started or by who, it's all good music, let's enjoy it But hey, I'm sure the most of us all extremely well versed in Daft Punk already, so enough about them until the Tron OST comes out. Also the BBC docu you posted is great as well. There is documentary called Maestro which covers the origin of disco and later house music centered around the Paradise Garage and other clubs in the NY scene during the 70s and 80s. The first part is right here. Definitely recommended viewing for all. Man vs Child fucked around with this message at 18:01 on Dec 8, 2009 |

Man vs Child posted:Oh don't get me wrong man, I am well aware of the origins of house music from wonderful chi-town soul to the new york paradise garage disco sound (RIP Larry Levan). No need for us to get passive aggressive and bickering over where house started or by who, it's all good music, let's enjoy it Sorry if it came off as passive-aggressive, I honestly had 3 hours of sleep and I was in class when I wrote that, so I'm not exactly in the right frame of mind right now. My intention was for people who were new to House to actually look back and listen to how it all began, because I think it allows you to develop an authentic and unique perspective on House and what it's supposed to be about. It also might answer questions that the common musical gormandizer would want to know, like "how did jazz, samba, doo-wop, funk, disco, soul, rock, traditional african/indian music, etc. all come together like that?", or "why is it so repetitive and WHY DOES THE drat KICK DRUM CHOKE THE WHOLE MIX?!?". Everything makes sense after learning the whole history of how it began.

CHRISTS FOR SALE posted:Anyone who's even marginally interested in how House and Techno formed should watch Pump Up The Volume, a BBC-made documentary about how dance music, and later the rave scene, began. It is very Brit-centric, because it was made by the BBC, but there's a lot of the documentary that has to do with the American scene as well. I'm not watching this just to see how much they talk about New Order. No, not at all. It was pretty nice in the late 90s when Daft Punk, Prodigy and Fatboy Slim were the biggest things out there. It looked like Electronic music might be the next big thing. Then BAM! Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys out of nowhere, and it killed it. And ever since then, it's been kid oriented bubblegum pop since.
