Everything he's done lately has been great. I took this La Roux remix from his Sounds of Summer 09 mix because it isn't available anywhere else to listen to, it's an easy going guitar mix that is nothing like his other work.

remembers me of skreams mix and I actually prefer that one alot:

I definitely meant Digitalism. Pogo is a real standout; all the rest of their stuff falls pretty flat IMO.

I really really like Zdarlight and the other tracks are pretty solid, also the live experience Digitalism rocks :)

Prepare to be loving ROCKED. I've caught him a few times in montreal and toronto and they were some of the most bangin' great times i've had. He throws it down like mad.

holy poo poo this was mad! 2,5 hours set, played everything you could wish for (Power, bangers from Oi, Waves/Deathsuite) and the club was loving packed (was overcrowded, people where moshing like mad to get any space) and he ended the set with Phil Collins in the Air Tonight remix, which is basically the normal song up until the drum solo and then some "teschno" as he'd call it :D

song of the night: kontakt me - didn't like it that much on the album but fuuuuck does it sound great played out loud!

at least Busy P/whoever is running the ed banger twitter said it's NOT part of his upcoming album. Think it's some weird way to catch attention and the last part of threnody is pretty ok - http://toomanysebastians.blogspot.com/2010/01/sebastian-threnody-capt-and-cooked-edit.html edited a bit and spiced up.

I'm sooo psyched for the new Justice album that's supposed to drop early 2010, I hope they can keep up the quality.

And the thing I'm anticipating most is the new Does it offend you, yeah? album coming out in march, already bought tickets to see them in Munich around the time it's relased.

Their first album is really great and after that:

quote:

Lead singer James Rushent co-produced The Prodigy's "Invaders Must Die" and their top five hit "Omen".
I absolutely LOVE both songs and Rushent is the only person besides Dave Grohl (!) to help producing the album of The Prodigy.
If you don't know em yet, check out their stuff :)

Haha no way, that SebastiAn track owns. Also to the dude who said "the last 2 minutes of it own" you are totally missing the point, the last 2 minutes are generic SebastiAn grindy banger bullshit. If the thought of a thousand rolling/tripping teenagers getting tired of holding their arms in the air and going "wtf" waiting for the beat to drop on this track doesn't bring a smile to your face you are probably the kind of dude who buys vip passes for multiple Deadmau6 and Daft Punk concerts and didn't even know what house was until after Pitchfork started hyping Cross. Bloghouse banger of 2010 imo

(but the original song it samples,Penderecki's Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima, is still better)

oh please, I'm probably the biggest "this poo poo is for dancing", "cut the pretentious bullshit" dude in this thread, and that track loving rules. it's a ballsy move to have a track thats two thirds jacked up whine and good on him for doing it.

But hey, i bet if danger did it with a sample from Metroid this thread would be jizzing all over it's own loving chest.

I don't have to have bangers all the time and I get that there is more to this genre than laying hover over every loving song and making a strong bassline but the post came off as extremely "my music > your music" pretentious.

was less about the sebastiAn track which is pretty ok overall and more about the Deadmau5 (again - seriously?) rant.

anyway .. where's the love for I love animals by soulwax/crookers/mixhell. absolutely fantastic and everytime I randomly get the song on the way to work I want to go out and dance. There's a Roisin Murphy collaboration coming up, can't wait to hear it.

kung fu grip posted:

Pejorative or not, this is actually pretty decent advice for new producers and even a mindset that those who've been producing for a while should try and reconnect with.

First, his tunes are really basic. There's nothing particularly fancy about them and they're not overly complex on the production side or to the dancefloor. '1-2-3-4 and poo poo happens' works. It's always worked, it will always work. That track you wrote, with all it's complex breaks and bassline changes gets it's rear end kicked by 'Bye Friend*' and that tune literally does nothing from the start to the end. If you're just starting he's a pretty decent producer to emulate while you're learning and if you're an old hand returning to the bog standards that always work can open your eyes to new things.

Second, even his most epic, sparkle-powered jetpack to the stars poo poo, like Ghost n' Stuff, is entirely unpretentious. There's a sense of whimsy and fun in the tunes that really do translate into direct dancefloor energy. A little cheese is what makes the pizza kinda thing. People respond to big noises, people love it when you smile. Making the "I'm gonna poo poo my pants cuz my music is so underground" scrunchy face your entire set is a poor emotional connection to make with the crowd.

You can tell he takes his production seriously, as the tunes always sound good, the noises have great energy and they're usually dancefloor appropriate. At the same time, he also doesn't take himself too seriously which you really can hear in the music. He knows it's fun, not a contest to be bleeding loving edge hip or 'thought provoking'... where the only thought you do prevoke from your crowd is 'this is so loving boring'.

So, there ya go... an apologia for a deceased rodent.

* this is the one deadmau5 tune I play and I unabashedly love it. It doesn't do anything, it's just a workhorse.

thanks for this post and I am also thankful it didn't start another rage war :)

OF COURSE Justice is falling off the radar, they haven't released an album or really any new material in two years (that's if you count Planisphere, which I personally think is loving AWESOME) and they play live sets with virtually the same songs everytime (correct me if I'm wrong, I've never actually seen Justice). But even then I still think they've maintained a level of popularity that's pretty shocking considering what little they do.

Also I hope I don't sound like I'm dissing Justice or anything cause I think Cross is one of the best albums of all time and would probably suck Xavier and Gaspard's dick at the same time if given the option.

the older mix they did for a cross the universe sounds nothing like the stuff they started touring with.
