Yes, this track loving rules. The new DJ Hell is one of the top albums of 09 IMO, Electronic Germany might be my favorite though, it's got a great retro Kraftwerk-esque sound to it, Hell really follows in the footsteps of a lot of classic German stuff in a noticeable and interesting way

I will post the poo poo out of some minimal in this thread and never run out. What are some specific DJs you remember liking? Minimal is a very broad genre with a lot of different regional styles. But if you just want random stuff to try, some fairly well known artists who have been releasing HOT HOT HOT stuff lately are Ben Watt, Stimming, Nick Curly, Lauhaus, Dusty Kid, 2020 Soundsystem, The Field, Radio Slave, Claude Von Stroke, GummiHz, Steve Bug, Andomat 3000, Joseph Capriati, Martinez, Pantha du Prince, Efdemin, Gabriel Ananda, and Gui Boratto. If you've gone to a minimal event in the past couple months you've probably heard this track, a real goodie in the tribal sort of sound that a lot of ppl are attempting but not everyone has been able to pull off

DatA - Blood Theme

As well as Genesis and Stress from Justice. It's hard for me to describe why I like them but the songs have a "mood" to them that I really like. It feels dark and gritty. If I were to describe the feeling, pretend you're driving a really nice luxury car really fast at night with neon lights all around you. v:shobon:v Any recommendations?

What do you think of these?
Vitalic - La Rock 01
Boys Noize - Don't Believe The Hype

Haha no way, that SebastiAn track owns. Also to the dude who said "the last 2 minutes of it own" you are totally missing the point, the last 2 minutes are generic SebastiAn grindy banger bullshit. If the thought of a thousand rolling/tripping teenagers getting tired of holding their arms in the air and going "wtf" waiting for the beat to drop on this track doesn't bring a smile to your face you are probably the kind of dude who buys vip passes for multiple Deadmau6 and Daft Punk concerts and didn't even know what house was until after Pitchfork started hyping Cross. Bloghouse banger of 2010 imo

(but the original song it samples,Penderecki's Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima, is still better)

No seriously, Threatis knows what he's talking about. Any hate in this thread is misplaced anyway, if you ask me, since you should all be hopped up on love drugs. That being said, I'm going to post a bunch of progressive (blogressive?) house to spite him.

Stimming - Melodica http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlxbwpPZfPY
This is brand new stuff. Good for relaxing by yourself like a villain :)

Adam K and Soha - In the Music http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jfMsxhHquM
These guys get quite a bit of play around Toronto. Way underrated here, though, since its their home town. You've probably heard their flagship songs Twilight, or Need To Feel Loved. This is their take on a house classic (imo) by Deep Swing.

Pryda - Melo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXS73NDYapg
Eric Prydz catches a lot of poo poo for sounding like a lot of other played out trance, but his Pryda side project is nothing short of genius (imo) by deep swing. You've probably heard Pjanoo, but this song blows the pants off of that poo poo any day if you ask me.

JPL - We're on the Moon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amfoZYRsuhY
Stumbled upon this through an internet radio station and it's criminal that this song has under 1000 views on youtube. 8 minutes of feelgood beats and a wall of sound.

Moderat - Rusty Nails http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DoxUiqUpkw4
A little dubsteppy, and a little too introspective for this thread, but its drat good song either way. Great sounding melody on the chorus, and a cool video that you should check out even if you're not a fan of the music.

Gui Boratto - No Turning Back http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pe18N8U87YU
Another feelgood proghouse track. I'm sure you've heard It's a Beautiful Life, and, again, this blows the pants off of that played-out nonsense.

Good post btw. The Gui Boratto and Moderat albums were two of my favorites last year, and Stimming's also consistently fantastic. Adam K and Soha are great too though that track is a bit trancey for my tastes, this is my favorite track of theirs and a REAL techy floor flattener:

I need some insight from you house experts on a mystery I'm dealing with. I recently came across a track of what sounds like an earlier mix of Eric Prydz's "Call On Me" that's labeled as a white label version. The weird part is that it's credited to Thomas Bangalter & DJ Falcon (aka Together).

At first I thought it was just a mistake but then I found a Youtube of the same track with the comments stating that Bangalter did originally conceive it. The story is that Bangalter couldn't release his version because Roule was unable to get the rights to the Steve Winwood sample but Ministry of Sound was able to do so and hence Eric Prydz's version was what got released.

Wikipedia states that this rumor started because Bangalter & Falcon used the original mix in their sets and an advanced pressing incorrectly gave them credit. However, the citation for this points to Prydz's profile on thedjlist.com so I don't know how reliable that would be.

Just wondering if anyone knows anything about this.

Well this definitely isn't authoritative or anything but i have listened to a shitload of music by Thomas Bangalter / Falcon and all those guys, as well as most stuff by Eric Prydz, and 'Call on Me' sounds FAR more like a French scene track. Prydz never did anything (else) near that good in the sample heavy funky disco loop kind of style, pretty much everything he does is super melodic / proggy and synth heavy. I've never heard that rumor before but it makes perfect sense and wouldn't surprise me at all.

No offense bro but between this and your extreme cluelessness when it comes to recognizing major djs in the Essential Mix thread it might be better to start googling things you haven't heard of yet before assuming they're at all obscure

People still hella play happycore, gabber, hardstyle, trance, jungle, all that poo poo at the 'all ages dance parties' in Seattle and there's at least one big one every month, tho most of them are about as underground as a satellite it's definitely got what I would call a 'ravey vibe' (granted I only started partying in 2003-2004 when the scene was officially 'already dead' if you ask the old heads) Of course it's not gonna be the same as 'back in the day' but the drugs are good and the beats are loud and there are 14 year old girls are running around in giant rainbow brite pants and star pasties asking people if they want a light show, so if it quacks like a rave... I usually go to the 'Burner' parties and stuff myself that tend to have better music and an older crowd and those people scoff when you say the word 'rave'. There's also still outdoor renegades and warehouse parties, sometimes every weekend during the summer, that are much more underground with map points and call-for-directions-the-night-of but there's a lot less kandi at those and more house, west coast breaks, psytrance, or dubstep than oldschool 'rave music' or hardcore.

Yo, I pretty much love every single one of these tracks. Feeling the minimal and it's really something I'm trying to listen to more. Can you hit me with a few big names?

Hi, sorry I missed this for so long. Here's a few who have done really good stuff lately:

Âme
Stimming
Nôze
Radio Slave
Nick Curly
Rex the Dog
dOP
Matias Aguayo
Rico Casazza
Dusty Kid
Wolfgang Voigt

PM me if you want more in depth reccomendations like if you like specific artists i can tell you labels that sound like them, there's a lot of 'sub-styles' of minimal..

I've really been enjoying Kaskade's The Grand. What are some essential house compilation albums, or even just essential albums in general? I like a lot of deep hhouse, progressive house, and minimal (the post above was a great help). What do you guys consider staples?

Kaskade's main label Om Records down in San Francisco is one of the biggest and imo most consistently good American deep house labels, I haven't had a bad compilation album from them and they've released a bunch. Mark Farina - Air Farina along with his Mushroom Jazz mix series are generally considered to be must have classics but IMO he's only okay, he's kind of a legend but there are better deeper cuts out there. Essentials... hard to pick. I think you'd like Trentemoller - The Last Resort a lot. Really just keep digging, I also replied a few artists to you in the recommendation thread.

Has no one heard of soulseek anymore? Blogs have made you kids lazy! Why, in my day, you had to walk uphill in the snow both ways just to torrent rips, or wait in line for 10 years on rapidshare...

^ i have had this song stuck in my head since i heard it in some mix and was disgusted to find out it's by Tiesto but hey you throw THIS many darts at the board, some of them have to stick, right?

Firaga: Is Designer Drugs a group? When I went to see them it was just one dude spinning. Either way, sick shiot.

Mr Viper: Catchy! Tiesto really has gotten better since he started making housier stuff. and yeah, I don't expect too much from trance or vocal house lyrics, haha, it's a bummer when they're so aggressively bad that it distracts you from the beats though. That's how i feel about Alexkid - Don't Hide It, how do you manage to get the cadence that bad when you're not even bothering to rhyme? It's a shame, great song otherwise.

They've announced the lineup for the Fractal Forest (uptempo house / breaks stage) at Shambhala! Fidget city!

A lot of hometown favorites so far but there's some major talent!! There are a few 'Headliner TBA' slots, as well as the Pagoda (main stage) lineup which is yet to be released, so there may be an even bigger name yet... Crossing my fingers for Fake Blood, personally.

V am i the only one who thinks this is kinda lame? i guess 'summer anthems' usually are... but jeez, they were putting out better stuff than this 5 years ago...

Well, that's... uh... something. It's an ad for a music festival in Europe, right? You'd think they'd play some house music in the background, maybe...

This post is a tribute to one of my all-time favorite minimal/glitchy house labels, Musique Risquee... if anyone ever tries to tell you that nothing good has ever come out of French Canadia, and you're not gay enough to love Cirque du Soleil and Rufus Wainwright like me, you can still point to this label, along with Wagon Repair, Archipel, Cynosure and the Mutek label & music festival...
