Jesus I was listening to a new mix from Valeries blog today, and at around the 17 min mark I hear this song, that was straight hotness. I was like "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS???" I check the track listing and it is a god drat Janet Jackson instrumental. She can still bring the heat after all of these years. The song is poo poo, but the instrumental is great.

I dont want to rain on the parade, but this band sounds really generic to me. I tried to listen to the songs, because it got a lot of high marks from everyone in here, but it all sounds the same.

It sounds too much like something Justice would do, and when they throw the violin in, it just sounds out of place. The only one of those three that I like is the "feels good" song but thats because the vocals can work a little bit with the song. I dont know I must be missing something.

Hey whats the general consensus on Eric Prydz in here? I see a lot of talk about Swedish House Mafia but none on the guy who created the group. Aside from Pjanoo (god I hate that song) the Pryda stuff he has come out with and also his other alter ego cirez d has all been amazing stuff.
Anyway, I've been really getting into a lot of his older Live Dj Sets, they are really well done. The one he did last year at INOX in Toulouse was unbelievable. Here is a link for you guys to download it from, taken from his website if you guys haven't heard it I recommend giving it a shot.

Second this, I went there a couple months ago with a friend and the venue is completely awesome. Expensive as poo poo to get your drink on but the sound system is amazing. The sound travels so well, the DJ playing wasn't that good but I can only imagine if someone that was decent played they would rock it.

Ya I cant imagine what a DJ Set is like there, since the venue is so small. Especially for a DJ like Benassi, where it seems like he would thrive off a 50,000 plus stadium gig.

Also, the crowd could be really hit or miss. I'm predicting half UCSC students a third of underage kiddies, and round off the rest with gang bangers. Let us know how it goes though.

I completely agree. Can't wait for the EP (so are we talking like a 5 song EP?) to drop. I never understand how artists are afraid to take time to craft their sound in fear that their audience will forget about them. This isn't rap music where a new artist comes around every 6 months (im talking about coming up with original music) to take the spotlight.

Jesus for someone that doesn't listen to Drum and Bass at all, I mean I cant stand most of it (all of it) but this mix blows my mind. Question: How can you say you can't stand any drum and bass but have the Netsky essential mix 'blow your mind'? The mix is full of liquid dnb from all different types of label and artist for a start with only a few of his tracks. Have you got some incorrect preconceptions about dnb or something that make you think you hate it or what? His tracks personally i don't even think that are good and he's not the best artist on Hospital, which is full of talent.

When I said I couldn't stand DnB I just meant that as a very casual listener I didn't like any of the stuff I was hearing. It just sounded too generic and didn't do much for me. I guess when I heard a bunch of various styles/songs mashed up it sounded a lot better to me instead of just clicking and listening to a single track on youtube.

If you listened to it, you know that the refrain (and really the whole thing) is just ripe for awesome rear end samples. Also I love WKUK and Trevor is hilarious. So I chopped the gently caress out of it and made this beat which may or may not be booty-bumpin'.

Check it out if you can, I'd love feedback on it.

To continue my man love with Above and Beyond (btw who ever suggested Trance Around the World is a saint) they are playing in Santa Cruz,CA (my hometown) on May 26th. I'm pissed I cant go, but jesus the venue they are playing at is horrible. There are a couple SC goons that are in this thread so you can agree with me that for the Caliber of DJ's that are A&B the Civic Center is a horrible location. Not to mention that it is an All ages event.

Would've been awesome to see them perform though. Also I didn't realize until now how much Trance I listen to. I dont know if thats good or bad.

Where else could they play? The Catalyst is awful... I feel like the Civic Center is a pretty sweet venue to be honest, one of my favorite smaller ones to see electronic music. Luckily this is a trance show so all of the terrible Santa Cruz 14 year olds who live for Dubstep should be gone.

Ya, maybe I just grew up thinking of the Civic as a place where you played basketball on the weekends, rather than a place that would hold Trance concerts. I just can't imagine a ton of people rocking out on a basketball court that is at least 70 years old. Although the Smashing Pumpkins played there a couple years back and rocked it.

I was worried about clicking this and was pleasantly surprised when I did, glad Skrillex has been reigned in a bit on this track as the stuff he's done doesn't ruin it. Top track.

I might be REALLY off with my comparison, but I feel like dubstep is to electronic music as rap was to R&B in the 90's when the format was "R&B singer does her thing for about 2:30 minutes, throw in a quick 30-45 second rap verse and boom song is done". I mean it just sounds forced every time I hear a nice sounding electro song and then all of a sudden that WAMP WAMP WAMP WAMP sound for a quick second and then back to the nice melody to finish the song. It's just like whats the point?

Heres an example of a perfectly fine song that just feels like its throwing in some dub for the hell of it. Threw me off when I was listening to TATW last week.
