now now, boys, no top tier genre sissyslap fights in this thread I was getting sentimental and managed to track down a couple good vids of Sasha and Digweed at Webster Hall in 2008 (after they made webster look cool again.) They do incredible live sets when they're together. Also their LED structure was consistently amazing and varied. Highly recommend seeing either of them when they come around again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eVs2cMAjfA0&

The Walrus posted:Someone's put together an amazingly well-edited amateur video of the happiest EDM party in the world. The music choice is a bit dubious but it's worth checking out (and so is the festival, seriously, it's something else). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rg3yAFN9FCw&feature=player_embedded Dubious for that kind of festival maybe; that's one of skrillex's most well-made tracks. Also I'd be much more impressed if they synced the dancing clips to the music BPM Sick looking festival, though. Current favorite listens: Chilly Gonzales - You Can Dance (Robotaki Remix) Really any remix of gonzales is amazing, that man has impeccable taste. The filtered bass leading up to the drop is perfect, I love the breakdown as well. Mark Stevens - Prom Night Bit Funk posted this on his facebook, it's such a funky smooth house piece. Hey Champ - Cold Dust Girl (Gemini Club Remix) Amazingly catchy remix of a similarly catchy synthpop tune. Housse De Racket - Roman (Oliver Remix) Insert same description as above.

TheModernAmerican posted:I don't really like how so many people sample old swing tracks from the 20s. I'd like to see someone record their own music. What? Much of electronic music incorporates some form of sampling. The majority of hip hop subgenres, tons of house and drum and bass and techno subgenres... jazz and rock musicians 'vamp' all the time. Even "alternative rock band" coldplay took the entire melody of kraftwerk's "computer love" for a song. Sampling is the spice of musical life.

TheModernAmerican posted:I know that but it seems that the sample really dictates a whole song in this genre. Once a DJ finds a track they build around that. Reversing the process might work out. Did you bother observing some of Caravan Palace's live shows? On many occasions in their songs, they create the scat/lyrics themselves and play it back/sing it in a way evocative of sampling. like so: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dm6DzM7rNE Regardless, some samples dictate a whole song in a bunch of genres. Take almost any DJ Premier instrumental, it will be variations on a 4-bar sample. Take any Daft Punk track off Discovery, it'll probably be built on one fundamental 70s funk/jazz fusion riff.

MrSargent posted:Speaking of disco, Louis La Roche put out an album a couple months ago that I feel like a bunch of people in this thread would like. It's disco/nu-disco/french house and is tasty. awww yeah love more Louis La Roche! Once you follow enough producers/groups that you like on Soundcloud, like 150-200 I've noticed you'll get to this exponential point where it'll recommend what they are listening to and then you'll listen to the recommended dudes' stuff their recommendations and also potential followings' stuff and those potential followings and so on and you'll never actually be able to keep up with the insane rate of music output even in a handful of genres aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
