Really? You guys like that track? I was only able to make it through about 30 seconds of it before I wanted to kill myself. I later talked to a few friends about it, and they all said the same things. It's annoying as gently caress. I love some Crystal Castles tracks, but there are a few that just aggravate the hell out of me, and this is one of them.

Theeeeere we go. Celestica's loving awesome! This is the CC I love, except it sounds significantly less chiptune. Mother Knows Best is more on the annoying side of CC, though, but definitely not as bad as Doe Deer.

Loving both Underworld and High Contrast, this is loving amazing. Is this the only track they collaborated on for the new UW album? In any case, I'm pretty anxious to hear the new album now.

The first I heard of Hybrid was like two years ago. I was listening to di.fm one night (a trance station, I think), and "Just For Today" came on. I thought it was the most epic electronic song I'd ever heard, and I was instantly hooked. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWgQ9PNeDG4 There's also "Dogstar" with vocals by Perry Farrell of Jane's Addiction, which is another one of my favorites of theirs. It's pretty haunting and great to drive to at night or in the rain, just like "Just For Today". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lO0dmMfIcJY Obviously I Choose Noise is my favorite Hybrid album. Sort of related to this thread: I knew Deadmau5 was big, but when did he get big enough to play the VMAs? He seems completely out of place with the other artists like Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber and Drake.

I don't know, I just kind of figured that he was a figure like, say, Tiesto, who everyone knows about but isn't exactly MTV-level mainstream. I know he plays a ton of festivals a good amount of people have heard him and stuff, but I still thought of him as that douchebag Canadian electro producer, not a pop star or something resembling it. Didn't expect him to play an awards show. I guess I'm out of the loop, though.

Yeah, I can't believe Skrillex is actually good considering everything else I've heard from Sonny Moore is absolute garbage. His solo stuff (which was a lot more digital than From First To Last ever was) was loving terrible, from what I remember. It's weird to think that he has talent in some other form of electronic music.

Just saw deadmau5 at Voodoo Fest. Completely blew me away. I had no idea he would put on a show that energetic, but it was a great surprise. Second best electronic show I've seen, right behind Pendulum at the House Of Blues.

Some folks hate him just to hate him here though, so. I already hated on him in this thread, but for petty poo poo. I had no idea what the quality of his live shows was. At the festival I went to this weekend, I saw a bunch of electronic acts. Rusko, Boys Noize, Ferry Corsten, The Crystal Method, Paul Van Dyk, Oakenfold, deadmau5, etc. But deadmau5 was the most fun out of all of them.

He's a giant douche, I wasn't disputing that with my post. He put on a great show, though. Almost Daft Punk-like with the big LED "DM" which was kinda like the pyramid at Daft Punk's shows a few years ago. Lots of great visuals, he kept the crowd pumped up the whole time, took off the mask and dressed up like a ghost at one point because it was Halloween, etc. It was just a fun show to witness. But as a person? Dude's an rear end in a top hat. Just about everything I've heard him say in interviews and stuff he's posted on message boards and the like screams "I'm a giant dick" to me.

Just sayin' that that kind of stuff is a nice bonus and adds more flair to the show. Some of the DJs I saw this weekend just stood behind the table and spun, fist pumping occasionally but not much more than that. deadmau5 was actually entertaining to watch in addition to the music being great. High-energy music combined with crazy visuals and an entertainer putting it all on is a winning combination. There wasn't really a single moment during his set when the crowd wasn't seriously pumped up.

alpiger posted:This post is pretty much the embodiment of the kind of attitude that is ruining electronic dance music. The whole "DJ as rock star" thing is really gross to me. A DJ who "just stands behind the table and spins" is doing what a DJ is supposed to do because you aren't supposed to spend all night stood there staring at the DJ. It's a party not loving Eric Clapton or whatever. ...sorry? Are you trying to tell me that a party isn't a much more fun party with the qualities I listed? Even if you do think that way, we can still enjoy different types of parties. It doesn't mean I'm "ruining EDM" if I like my EDM shows to be as jam loving packed with energy as they can be. I still enjoyed seeing the DJs that I got to see who just stood behind the table and spun. I just enjoyed deadmau5 a hell of a lot more because he had the whole package. God, I hope it's a new album. Cross is excellent, but it came out almost 4 years ago. I don't think a single would cut it. Though that teaser doesn't give me a good idea of what it'll sound like. You want to do a trailer for a release right? Do something like Danger did for 9/17/07. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfGSnhYsZLw

Furnace posted:The trifecta of poo poo. I don't know of any specific tracks of theirs that have been truly incredible in the last few years, but I saw both Crystal Method and Oakenfold at Voodoo Fest last year and they put on great shows, especially TCM. And Oakenfold's Tranceport gives him a pass for life in my eyes. I know they aren't currently relevant like other electronic artists and nothing they've done recently can be considered innovative, but they've both got some great material under their belts and they both get crowds moving. Moby, though...poo poo, he hasn't put out anything worthwhile in the past decade, has he? Rageaholic fucked around with this message at 23:15 on Mar 20, 2011 |

http://www.synthtopia.com/content/2009/10/21/mobys/ A couple years ago I saw this video tour of Moby's studio. Dude's got pretty much every synth, rare or not, in existence. Having seen that, it baffles me as to why a lot of his music is incredibly boring. Though he collects them more than he uses them, IIRC.

It doesn't have to be exactly like Cross. I mean, that was an excellent album and I didn't expect them to top it, but the songs that have been released from the new album so far have felt pretty underwhelming to me. They don't have to release more songs exactly like D.A.N.C.E. or Waters of Nazareth or Stress, but when I think Justice, I think infectious tunes that won't leave my head no matter what, and none of the tracks so far have done that for me.
