For the camera I just keep the lens mounted and grab the camera by the center of the rail or the rail clamp and hope I don't have to walk too far.

It sounds like a much better plan than when I had 4x5 monorail. It came with a hard box and I just loaded evening thing in there and made it all twice as heavy and awkward for myself.
