the mirror would do well to reflect further

Anyone have any strong feelings on huion 13 vs. xp pen 13 inch tablet with screen built in? They both look great but I am leaning to the xp pen due to having the dial. I like dials more than touch strips.

Needs to be able to flip easily to left handed mode.

Got a Huion Kamvas 13 and I'm really happy with it so far! If anyone's considering a good budget drawing tablet, it seems solid to my limited knowledge. No delays, overheating, or such I've experienced so far.

However, for Huions I'd recommend to check if your computer has a USB-C port with the newer specs that support video/more power because their default connection involves two USB cords and a HDMI port whereas the second port for USB-C requires just one cord, one port and you're done. Pretty big difference if you like connecting/unconnecting your tablet or are on the move. Fortunately my laptop had one and it hooked up fine with the one cord.

Anyways, this is a pretty big thread and I used to always think I was bad at art, but it turns out it was just unmanaged ADHD. Anyone have any good channel recommendations for quick tutorials? There's so many options on YouTube, but they vary a lot on what they say to do starting out.

Want to back this bit up about USB C powered tablet. I have the XPpen 13.3 artist tablet and I actually like it quite a bit EXCEPT THE EXTRA CABLES! If I could have done it all over again I would have gotten the Huion. Didn't realize that was a differene between the two brands. I hate carrying extra cables.

Get a neoprene sleeve (ideally with rubber bumpers) and that helps protect it for travel. Not as nice as some ipad cases but it will do in a pinch.
A stand is very important and most will fold into the bag along with the tablet as long as you are getting a 13 inch tablet or smaller. If my XP Pen 13.3 inch was any bigger it wouldn't fit.

Krita isn't bad but there are lots of free options out there. Verve is pretty cool too for the liquid dynamics.

Just found out there is a version of Verve built in the browser.

Alternatively I recommend Art Rage or Rebelle but I don't think they are free - however pretty cheap. Rebelle has a free demo.

Oh - and THIS one "Realistic Paint Studio" which has an amazing brush engine and is only 19 bucks. It does a FANTASTIC job of emulating traditional media. However you better have a modern computer because Realistic Paint Studio is definitely a big resource hog. Might even have a worse lag than Corel Painter depending on your specs.

If you are on a Mac Sketch Club is pretty popular but nothing beats the popularity of Procreate.

Kind of amazing that the 13 inch Huion Kamvas is at or less than 200 bucks.

XP Pen is about to release a tablet with 16k levels of sensitivity.
