What other Cold War type games are there? I'm curious on Team Yankee but my area has a real love/hate with Battlefront stuff so I've never really had an even opinion on what to expect.

Yeah no Ivans for another week because lol Battlefront are a mess.

Cheers for the Cold War recommendations as well thread, been looking them up this week and me and a bud are gonna try some stuff. :) Might give TY a go but I've not played FOW so I'm going in a bit blind.

The Abrams kit? US stuff never interest me so it'd be Soviets all the way to be honest. Laughing at the T-72 though. I found the rulebook easy to read at least, it seems like a nice pick up and play game, a lot of my mini games tend to be a bit complex so I need a nice beer game.

My flgs has a demo kit for TY down and we have some of the stuff built, the T72s look cool, gotta be said. Made me go all :3: for historical stuff.

Really, all you need to know about Battlefront's treatment of the Eastern Front is that the Germans in Berlin get stupid prototypes that saw service for maybe five minutes before getting blown up, and Soviets can't even take SU-85s.
This doesn't bode well for Team Yankee. My buddy was saying that Battlefront seem to have some sort of narrative they want to spin and adhere to for their games rather than actual game balance.

I'm gonna stall out for newer stuff before I leap in, at least until the Shilkas are out, but it does seem cool so far. Curious how much stuff they'll add from the era, more choppers, tanks that sort of thing.

Anyone knows how long it could take for Battlefront to send items that got out of stock?
We ordered a lot of stuff beyond the starter kit (friend of mine went and ordered a soviet army with a batallion of riflemen, some t34s and other stuff) and when the order was sent it said those items (amongst others) were out of stock.

My brother have tried to get in contact with them but they've sent some pretty vague emails, so I figured you guys probably know the answer to the question :v:
Battlefront are phenomenally crap as suppliers and unable to keep up with their own demand, so it could be weeks unfortunately.

pz your old av was way better :(

Zvezda seem to have a really lovely rep over here as being a bit cheap, I have zero experience with them but it has put me off just a little it. Just started playing Dropzone Commander so it'll be a little bit before I get into TY anyway. Might snag the rulebook today and keep reading it.

Of course the great thing about Bolt Action is that you can run almost any sort of force you want, from elite guards units with piles of firepower to "Enemy at the Gates was a documentary" style conscript hordes.
yeah me and a buddy are picking up some BA and there's some cool poo poo, I might hold out until the new book hits but i'm looking to play Naval Infantry stuff cause they look awesome, though finding good sculpts for them is hard, Warlords are okay though.

Not sure whether to post this here or in the scale model thread but for highlighting Russian Green/Vallejo Camo Olive Green, what shades do people use? I know Soviet armour had a lot of varied tones but I'm trying to plan out ahead on what it would look like depending on certain shades, anyone here have any examples and advice on painting Russian WW2 tanks?

Vallejo Russian Green is actually the modern armour colour. WWII era 4BO was noticeably lighter.
That's fair, it isn't for a historical project for the record but something else to do Soviet-esque style colours, so it being more modern isn't an issue, I'm just figuring out what to highlight it up with, something like Brown Violet (887) or the Russian Uniform WW2 colour.

I own too many bloody paints.

The funniest thing about Warlord sculpted infantry is almost half of them look like someone has just squeezed their balls really hard or are posed like they're trying to do it to someone else.

I'm picking up some Squiddo Soviets but for the rest of my BA stuff. Who generally does the best quality 28mm quality for infantry and then vehicles? Surprised there isn't more out there for 28mm. I noticed Plastic Soldier Company are hella cheap, but I don't know the market enough to know the quality of the competition.

Man I don't know if it's the paintjobs then, I need to see some Warlord Soviets in person because they don't look that great to me. I have heard good things about the winter kit though.

spectralent posted:

PSC can get you an entire soviet army for like £35. They're very old-timey figures; they have the kind of look you'd expect of upscaled 1/72 figures (which they probably are), which can look kinda soft. I'd recommend Wargames Factory's soviets, but they got bought out by Warlord. PSC probably aren't horrific, and it's hard to argue with a full set of infantry plus HMGs, antitank rifles, infantry guns, etc for £35.
Yeah, getting them that cheap is what tempted me to be honest.

What about the vehicle kits? Rubicon seems a bit hard to get hold of at the minute and they only have the T-34/76 and /85 which is a bit limiting.

For soviet WW2 vehicles you're going to find plastic T-34s and for everything else you'll be ordering in resin and metal from specialists. So far as I'm aware nobody even does IS-2s or KVs in plastic, and if you want something like a BT or a BA you're lucky if there's even a resin manufacturer.

(meanwhile here is our range of seventy four plastic german armoured cars...)
Sorry I should have just said best vehicle kits. I can work with whatever tbh. Warlord vehicles do seem decent. Want that KV2.

Or the bote.

moths posted:

The 15mm are outstanding, some have recognizable facial expressions and there's a great sense of movement / action to the sculpts.

In 28mm, they lose something. It's more obvious that the helmets and SMGs are exaggerated, the uniforms look formless, and much of the detail is suggested rather than crisp. They're still not bad for the price, and many poses are just as good as anything WGF or Warlord is doing. There's just a few ugly sculpts on the sprue that give the box a bad rap.
Tbh the reason I'm tempted is just because how drat cheap I can get them for at £25 or so. I'll prowl some reviews. Cheers for replies all!
