I love my brother very much.
i've seen some great bands posted, I have lots but let's see some international math rock:

good idea/bad idea (spain, mathy post hardcore-ish)
lobster (portugal, power duo)
billy chocolat (france, insane)
nuito (japan, awesome, totally unlike te or toe)
LITE (also japan)

and these dudes from oak forest, freudian slip, sign me up for 5/4 and 7/4, please!

America: Rumah Sakit; SWIMS; Them, Roaring Twenties; HEY!TONAL; By the end of tonight; auto!automatic!!; Sleeping People; dakota/dakota; ahleuchatistas

holy cow there are more, but this is the only music I really listen to these days. It's probably why I'm so crazy. HEY!TONAL is cool because:

quote:

HEY!TONAL is an experimental band comprising of Kevin Shea (Storm & Stress, Get The People, Talibam!, Coptic Light, People…), Mitch Cheney (Rumah Sakit, Sweep The Leg Johnny, Species Being, Greenness…), Dave Davison (Maps & Atlases), Alan Mills (Chii-saioto) and Theo Katsaounis (Weather, Locks, Joan of Arc, ZZZZ’s…). The sound of this ensemble combines in unconventional fashion to whip up a batch of deliciously accomplished mathy jazz-rock snacks. The results share common ground with both HEALTH and Don Caballero, via a novel route.

edit: i thought i checked well enough, i posted a couple repeats

Forget everything else; you all need to listen to Actarus: http://www.last.fm/music/Actarus (the french guys)

Friends: http://friends.bandcamp.com/

Mister Metaphor: https://www.last.fm/music/Mister+Metaphor

Colour: http://www.last.fm/music/colour (the british "math-pop")

And guess what? All of these bands save Friends have broken up. These four artists are beyond incredible and honestly blow everything else out of the water. As in, peace out Pink Magic (I haven't even really listened to it yet) and Gloss Drop. Do yourself a favor and get this stuff or email me if you need help.

Hey! I play guitar in Friends. I'm actually surprised anybody knows who we are.. uhh, but we kind of did break up, or atleast we downsized to a three piece. We're called Thinguins now, no music recorded yet though. Thanks alot for mentioning us, I literally said "Holy poo poo" out loud.

Awesome seeing these guys here. My band played a show with them last month and they are every bit as good as you say.

Some other bands that I don't think have shown up in this thread so far:

TOAST
from Monroe, LA
http://toastofficial.bandcamp.com/

Local band from where I my college town. As fine an example of math rock as I can think of.

Cleanup
from Fort Worth, TX
http://cleanup.bandcamp.com/

Saw these guys at a math rock-loaded show earlier this year, really drat good. They also put together Most Excellent Fest which is a (hopefully) recurring festival in Fort Worth which included mostly math rock and experimental bands.

thank you for posting Toast. those dudes kill it so hard!

Listening to Cleanup now and it's sweet. Calling off work for next June's festival!

Also, thank you Biscuit! for posting that Ni track. another great French group to add to the collection
