I've seen a 81 Honda Ascot that would start and idle just fine. It wouldn't take throttle, though, and when the carbs came apart it was pretty nasty inside.

A quick searching of the webbernets notes that it probably makes (or at one time made...that's a lot of miles on a bike) 100hp. That's too much to start out on.

Also, enjoy picking up a 600+ lb bike when you drop it. Because you will drop it.

[edit] As for it being a sport bike, its essentially a detuned Ninja 1000R with a tourer stance. Same engine.

In the interest of not being too negative-nancy, its a nice looking bike for its age.

My neighbor has a CB350 from that model year. They're neat little bikes.
