What's everyone think of this:

https://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/mcy/d/mesa-2019-kawasaki-zx6r-636/7041871381.html

Posting seems legit, I was able to get the seller to send a pic of the odometer and VIN, which both check out.

Also they're not open to lowballing and aren't in a hurry, so no red flags there, I only managed to bargain down to $8,000 over messages. $8,000 for a 2019 ZX-6R non-ABS with around 600 miles would be about low-mid retail according to NADA guide for the area, so it would be tough to get one out the door at a dealer for much less than $10k I'd think.

It's hard to find really new sportbikes like this on CL in my experience, especially with no first time rider drop damage. No ABS though, and that's kinda my big sticking point, I've always had ABS on my bikes and this would be for street riding. Insurance would be a bit higher too
:thunk:

I wonder if that's a big reason why the dude is getting rid of it.

I also wonder if they did it to keep the MSRP under $10k, so they can say "hey look a supersport for under 10 grand". Brand new now, those and the 2020 models (so yeah they do make them still without ABS) are MSRP $9,999.

drat that is a nice-looking 636, and a good price for a 2019.

I'm hoping this spring to get one of those (or a jigster 750 or an R6) to take to Road America and scream down the straights with earplugs in.
Yeah I came really close to buying it, but ended up getting a ZX-10R instead :v:

With all the electronics and rider assistance in most bikes these days, it's kinda dumb ABS is even optional (and costs almost $1k USD more in the case of Ninjas).

Hopefully it went to a good home, I know firsthand what a pain in the rear end trying to sell a like-new bike privately can be.

Has to be too many zeros, maybe they meant $350 (I have no idea what scooters cost) :v:

Only thing I could think of to explain that would be impulse buy where they get it and ride it for like 1 minute and go "oh poo poo I have no idea what I'm doing I guess I don't want this after all" which kinda tracks with the TW200 but yeah to have it for years? :thunk:

I was going to say absolutely a scam, but I honestly don't know anymore. Also it looks like Craigslist has started charging $5 bux for motorcycle listings, so the outright scams seem to have dipped a lot. Apparently Facebook is the place for those now.

How are the R3s? Never had any Yamahas. Ahhhh the last thing I need is a second bike, I don't know why I keep looking at them. Somebody else should buy it. It's just painful seeing a new, (probably) really fun bike sitting unused like that.

Another one of those sub-300 mile cases, probably been sitting a while so would need some basic maintenance, so maybe that's not a great asking price anyway.

I listed my bike on Craigslist a few months ago, and they now charge you $5 so that requirement has probably has helped a lot too. ^ e: you literally had just posted that about the $5 thing above me but I skim read right past it, I'm dumb

Facebook also gives zero shits about fake listings it would seem, I found this pristine old Ninja with pictures that had been straight up stolen from a pretty easy to find place and I reported it, it was still up weeks later last I checked. Facebook is the worst all around.

Every summer I go through the cycle of "ugh gently caress this sucks I hate this why do I have a bike" until about October then it's "hell yeah this is awesome" for a few months until it starts all over again. Last year though, that May-Sep ended up being like March-Nov, 2020 was the worst.

When I first started commuting to work, I was so amped about riding I tried to do it every day even during monsoon season, and more than once I got caught in one of the flash storms. Left one morning, sun in the sky, about 15 minutes down the highway it's pouring down rain like we're setting up for a biblical flood. Soaked completely through for the rest of the day at work.

Now that I was just about ready to buy a bike, nothing but overpriced Harleys and dirtbikes on Craigslist locally, the market seems nuts. I even stopped by a couple dealers and gave them my usual VoIP number and junk email address, and they haven't been harassing me either, so they must be doing well.

Ah well, need to save money anyway, think I'll put it on hold and maybe by the time things are less weird I'll have a place with a garage or living room for bike storage

I wonder how often those kind of big ticket sales actually happen, I'd imagine people with the cash would just drop it at a dealer, otherwise it's getting financed. I've seen essentially new Ducatis and BMWs going up on Craigslist for really decent bluebook prices, but that means still in the 15k-20k range, and they don't seem to move.

I had a neighbor who got older and no longer able to ride his Harley which was in pretty pristine condition, he listed it a few places for a couple months then ended up just selling it to a dealer, this was pre-covid bike madness though.

When and why did routing the exhaust under the seat on sportbikes stop being a thing? Seems like it was a brief fad from what I've seen online, I've seen older Kawasakis, Yamahas, and I think GSXRs that did it for a time.

Anyway this is a pretty good looking R1 in Phoenix, AZ, for $7k if anyone is in the area. 2005 but seems pretty immaculate and only 13.4k miles

I would like to take a literbike out for a leisurely spin on the highway someday. My supersport is really fast and I'm really curious now.
I'd highly recommend it if you get a chance to take a buddy's or do it on a loaner! As someone who commuted on one for a short time I quickly learned the many downsides; you'll never get the chance to tap into anywhere near the full potential outside of a couple of seconds ripping on it to merge onto the freeway or pass someone, and going long straight distances in that riding position gets old fast. Does feel really solid at highway speeds though and is also nice to cruise along at 80 MPH in top gear at ~6k RPMs, that's where any semblance of fuel economy you could ever hope for would be found

I sold a bike and transferred over the extended warranty and service contract, and paperwork was indeed a huge pain, but most of it was on the seller's (me) side. I had to send over copies of all the original paperwork, a transfer request form with all the buyer's info, and a payment form for the fee it cost to transfer ($90 in that case, although it was the service plan too). It took like 3 months for the warranty company to finalize the transfer also, they don't seem to move quickly on these things, so possibly be prepared for that unless you or the seller get a more responsive company or have better luck calling and yelling at someone to push it through.

Looks like this ended up selling as I was pondering it yesterday and before I finished writing up this post today, but I figured I'd ask the general question anyway in case something like it comes up again:

Help I'm battling an inline-4 itch currently, how bad an idea would an 8 year old ZX-6R with 40k miles on it be? $5,000 USD. It's only been up a couple days and I've been watching it, so unless there are issues with it I'm thinking it will be snatched soonish.

Outside of regular maintenance replaceables, what kind of major stuff starts going on a supersport up around that mileage?

imgur is throwing errors at me so I can't attach the screenshot but here's the link:
https://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/mcy/d/mesa-kawasaki-versys-300/7682029087.html

2017 Versys X 300 for $3500. I wasn't really looking but came across this and now have a sudden, urgent need for an around town practical commuter that can also let me cosplay on (polite) dirt roads, as a treat. Already started pricing out topcases too, this would be such a great bike to dadify to the nines

I don't want to get rid of a bike though so now I'm conflicted. Someone else should buy this assuming it checks out (low mileage tells me it's probably sat a lot and may need new tires and other wearables), or tell me it's a bad idea, as that will solve my dilemma until something else comes up. Otherwise I may have to make some room, somehow!!

Honda's naming scheme is particularly obnoxious, here is a CB300R but also we sell a CBR300R, we jammed one extra R in there to make it obvious

and that's just current model schemes, if you go back you have to sort out the CBFs, CBs, and apparently like with your bike they were using Fs instead of Rs to complicate it further! Total alphabet soup even by motorcycle naming standards

People are out of their minds with the title poo poo. It's so common that if they don't specify in the post I just automatically assume it's a lien at best.

How can we make Craigslist the go to for buying/selling motorcycles again? I have recently decided I need another bike which is why I'm trawling Craigslist regularly again and stumbling across these gems, and have been angrily resolved that if I want to find anything in the next year I probably need to use Offerup/FB marketplace. Craigslist's 2000's era interface remains still unbeatable for actual ease of use and lack of rage induction.

Stuff still gets posted to Craigslist here so it's worth checking but it's like 70% Harleys, Offerup was where I found my last two bikes.

I grudgingly made an account for FB marketplace and found some filters that supposedly show bikes from private sellers but loving dealers do shady poo poo where they post normal looking ads under personal accounts. To report them you have to click through a couple different screens, I know FB doesn't give a poo poo but reporting them and blocking the account at least removes the listing from your searches
