Frank Rossitano posted:Except that he didn't buy the mansion. They made it pretty clear that there was no way in hell he could afford it. You might want to give Home Movies a try as well: it's from the same producer and some of the same writers as Bob's Burgers, and it also features H. Jon Benjamin: http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/Home_Movies/70155577?trkid=2361637 Home Movies is actually where a lot of people first heard Jon Benjamin, and for me it was something of a shock to hear him be Sterling Archer since that character looks so different from all the other fat lazy characters he usually plays.

jase1 posted:Holy rollers: The true story of Christian card counters is a really interesting movie. It's about a blackjack team who counts cards at casinos and they are made up of all Christians which totally goes against their beliefs and they try to justify it. Coming from a strong religious home and not being apart of that now it was really fascinating watching these people speak about this. Tangentially related to this idea, instant streaming currently features the entire output of an actor named Marjoe Gortner (Starcrash, Food of the Gods, and Bobbie Jo and the Outlaw). Marjoe started life as the world's youngest evangelical preacher, and his first movie role was as the star of a documentary (not on netflix, but free on google video) about the scams he ran as a traveling preacher. The most interesting parts of the film are the ones where he's talking to other preachers and they talk about the scams they run to get money. The language they use is totally religious (getting a good haul of cash is called something like "a gift for serving the lord") and they don't seem to realize that they scammed a bunch of people out of money--even though they use that money to live on and don't donate it to a charity to something. Marjoe seems to be the only one who realizes what he's doing, and he's so disgusted with himself about it that he has the crew record all his tricks so that he can't go back to them if he gets desperate for cash later. he's a fascinating dude, and it's cool to see how he turned out in '70s sleaze like Starcrash. The documentary's here if you're interested: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-178629120699935619&ei=DknNSemoOI24_AGuv4zXAg&q=Marjoe&client=firefox-a

pizza cat posted:Can we request TV recommendations? My husband and I like to watch TV after work. However, he works a very emotionally draining job, and most of the good stuff out there today is really grimdark. Anyone have any recommendations for light-hearted or funny shows available to stream? We recently marathoned through Psych and loved it. Already seen 30 Rock and the like. Freaks and Geeks is pretty joyful and life-affirming. Bob's Burgers is transcendent, and if you like it Prime has Home Movies from the same people. If you like Psych, Eureka is more or less the science fiction equivalent.

trapped mouse posted:I like watching stand-up specials. I saw that Maria Bamford had one on Nextflix. I recognized her from Arrested Development, and I was curious about the description, so I put it on. I didn't think it was that great, but it does turn into something closer to traditional stand-up. It did inspire this imdb review, though: quote:Obvious reptilian.

Camel Pimp posted:I'm not sure if this is the thread to ask in, but what are some great bad movies on Netflix? (Other than Miami Connection; I've seen it and it was awesome.) Or Reefer Madness, but I was hoping for a full-length movie. Galaxy Of Terror and Battle Beyond the Stars are two fantastic Roger Corman classics. There are a few Deathstalker films and Quest for the Mighty Sword if you want fantasy schlock. A lot of the older Asylum films are up, as is Gor, the film to which mst3k classic Outlaw is a sequel. Troll 2 is a perennial favorite. Also The Stuff, Night of the Comet, and BMX Bandits. Detroit 9000.

...of SCIENCE! posted:My appreciation of the doc has gone down immensely after I started listening to Rob Paulsen's podcast and tracking down other voice actor interviews on Nerdist et al because of it and realized that almost every anecdote and conversation the voice actors have in it is one that they have been repeating verbatim for years. Yeah, but I'd never even have known to look for that stuff without the documentary, and I am a pretty big nerd. It's a fun introduction to a weird industry. Plus Grey Delise looks hot as hell for being 45 or something. I never would have guessed that.
