I looked through the thread and didn't see a reference to The Sorrow and the Pity, so I thought I'd throw one in here. It's a four hour long 1969 documentary about the French reaction to the German invasion in WWII: resistance, collaboration and responses to collaboration. Filled with direct interviews and engaging footage, it has been described by Roger Ebert as "one of the greatest documentaries ever made". It takes a hell of a long time to watch but is worth every minute. I couldn't find the whole thing anywhere, but here are the trailer and IMDB: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeO89EgDWrM&feature=PlayList&p=9B076968222838F8&index=0 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066904/ Red Dad Redemption fucked around with this message at 15:14 on Mar 13, 2010 |

Throwing in one more: Carrier, a nuanced and well rounded documentary about life on the aircraft carrier Nimitz: onship and off, officers and enlisted, the crew and their families. I haven't seen it all, but have been surprised at how impactful the parts I've seen have been. And this one is all available online: http://www.pbs.org/weta/carrier/full_episodes.htm

Bliggers- posted:"We" aren't going to help them at all, just like Western nations haven't for over a hundred years. China is going to save Liberia along with the rest of Africa. These statements are controversial, to say the least, but would make a fascinating D&D thread, particularly if you have good source material to back up your thinking on this. I hope you'll give it some thought.

I also agree that Louis Theroux is a pimp. Both of those look pretty interesting; here's the RT page for Darkon, fairly surprising at 88%: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/darkon Many thanks for posting them. mod sassinator posted:If anyone is curious Restrepo is on Netflix streaming now. Just watched it and have to say it's a fantastic war documentary. I feel like I just spent months embedded in the worst parts of Afghanistan. Many thanks for this; I've been wanting to watch Restrepo for a while now, and I'll be queueing it up this evening!
