Dont think this one has been posted yet. GAEA Girls is a about a female Japanese wrestling school and its tough training. The trainer in this is a bit of a psycho bitch and at times really hard to watch especially when she is dressing down a bloodied student for "taking the piss" and "being useless". Its 11 parts and has a slow pace but is still a pretty good doco. Part 1 is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_EL22-UIXg

Minotaurus Rex posted:Forgive me if one has been posted but does anyone know of any good Viking-based documentaries? Always thought those guys were pretty cool what with their awesome set of gods and poo poo, would like to learn more about them documentary-style. There was a good documentary about Viking sexuality a few years back (I think it was of a series) that was pretty good. I think they were debunking the idea of ritual beastiality in ancient societies. The host talks about a book where a group of housewifes are preparing a bull for dinner and they each take turns to hold its penis in their hands and say what they would like to do it. Not from a porno, it was on ABC.

Something of a nostalgia trip with this one (for me at least). Punch Lines...a seriously funny history Its about Australian comedy, made in the early nineties so its up to date or anything but still worth a look if you love stand up and sketch comedy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SX_ORTCIz-8

A couple of years ago some crazy Australians made a doco called Not Quite Hollywood; The wild, untold story of Ozploitation which I personally really enjoyed. Well now they have a new one called Machete Maidens Unleashed which is about exploitation films made in the Philippines. If you are Australian it was broadcast on ABC a couple of weeks ago and so may still be up on Iview with a couple of the films discussed. Otherwise you will just have to keep an eye out for it. If you loved the original documentary and enjoy exploitation/grindhouse films then this one is great fun. Quentin Tarantino does not make an appearance which also helps it out. Here is a little teaser. for the excessive violence and titties. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ig38Cyzm26k Headhunters of WW2 is about the Australian special forces unit Z-Unit who, while deployed in Borneo, recruited the locals and gave them permission to return to headhunting as a way of warding off the Japanese who had taken the island. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=33b_1286926463

The Sounds of Aus is a fun and entertaining doco about the aussie accent (if you didnt guess that). It goes for one hour and is worthwhile viewing for anyone who enjoyed the Story of English series, anyone interested in Australia or in etymology/social history. Its presented by a comedian so it's not exactly the most scientific analysis on the subject but it is a good view in my honest opinion. Part one can be found here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOnx21oL9zo Enjoy. On a slightly more depressing note there is also the fantastic series The First Australians. This history series goes from prehistory to present day and is highly informative and everyone who lives here should watch as should those interested in colonial history or race relations. Part one of episode one can be found here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcslF8yQ1Tg As a side note to any Australians reading this thread the SBS VoD service is now actually really good and they, like ABC iView, have heaps of good docos on there including the entirety of the First Australians series. homercles posted:Title is actually The Sounds Of Aus (2007) and the documentary is unfortunately partially uploaded (stops at part 4, part 5 not uploaded), I did not have much luck tracking down other sources that streamed the documentary. The uploader however has a bunch of other interesting content uploaded (I am not going to enumerate it). If you're into Australian history and want some passive entertainment, check mattyo30 out. Sorry about that, fixed the title in my post now. Didn't realise till after posting that it was incomplete either. Will try a few other places to see if I can find it. ABC iView has its own version for the PS3 as well, which is even worse than the normal one. The ISP Internode has it as uncapped content though which is always nice.

I just binged through a documentary series about the New Zealand land wars. It was really fascinating and quite well researched. The host claims that these wars saw the first implementation of modern trench warfare in the world. It was also a place and time that saw the country try to develop its own King movement to replace tribalism and even the rise of several new religious cults. For those who liked the documentary series about the French Indian war that was either posted here or in this threads predecessor you will like this one as well. Its in 5 parts and you can see the first part here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0sPMhqz-cc Its nice to see a historical documentary from a region that has very little coverage in that area. Does anyone have any other recommendations of history documentaries from countries that we dont tend to hear much about?
