Today the town is divided by fears of serious health risks, environmental politics, civic pride and old racial tensions between Indian and white society. THE CREEK RUNS RED explores the human response to an environmental disaster and the complex connection between people and place.
I live about three hours away from Picher. I'm torn on whether I should head over there and photograph the heck out of the place. I'd probably get cancer before getting out of the car, but it's oddly beautiful.
