Connections

An alternative view of change by James Burke.

An excellent BBC series from 1978 which basically travels through the history of human invention.

Episode 1: Part 1 of 5

There were two sequel series done in 1994 and 1997
Connections 2: Episode 1

The sequels aren't quite as good as the original (mostly because they're shorter and shot on video) but James Burke is back working his presentation magic.

Edit: Sp.

I'd written a lengthy post praising this series after noticing it was missing from the list on Page 1. Didn't realize the list didn't cover the whole thread :3: Now I've got nothing to contribute other than to heap more praise on this series.

I absolutely despised History at school, but if they'd shown us this documentary in class I would have had a very different outlook. It's almost as if school history deliberately concentrated on the dullest parts imaginable while leaving out all the fun and interesting stuff that James Burke covers.

Even if, like me, you've never been a history fan I'd recommend watching this.
