I figured it could be a good idea to have a thread focusing merely on news from the auto-industry.
More specifically, new models coming out from the manufacturers.
I don't know about you guys, but I like to keep up to date on most things car related.

What I picture this thread to be, is a place to post new cars that some, or most people may not be aware of yet. Then we can discuss what we think, until someone post something more interesting.

Please post any news with the obvious facts like, manufacturer, model name and basic facts.

I just came across the new VW Polo GTI today, and I have to say, it looks brilliant.

It'll have a Twin Charged 1.4 liter engine, producing 180 hp at 6200 rpm.
It's also got 250 NM of torque all the way from 2000 to 4500 rpm.
Put it together with a 7 speed DSG gearbox, and it'll get from 0-100 km/h in 6.9 secs and max out at 230 km/h.

The car will be available in both 3 and 5 door versions, and has the advanced ESP and electronic diff from the Golf GTI. It's also lowered 15 mm from the factory, and will be delivered with 17" rims as standard.

Prices aren't revealed yet though, but it's a 1.4, how bad can they be?
I really think this will be a fun car to drive, it's the same size as the original Golf GTi, but with even more power. I also think VW did a great job on making it look a lot less cheap than the previous model.

I guess that's why ze germans gets almost as much horsepower out of 1.4 liters, as americans do from 4.

While sort of still on the topic of the new Polo, here's its sister, the Audi A1.

Just like the Polo GTI it is expected to make it's first appearance at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show.
Sales of the initial 3-door A1 model are anticipated to start in continental Europe in the summer of 2010, followed by the United Kingdom in September 2010. A 5-door A1 Sportback model is also expected to be launched later

The engines range will initially comprise turbocharged 1.2 (86 PS) and 1.4 litre (122 PS) petrol engines, plus a 1.6 litre common rail diesel engine (105 PS)

Being an Audi, it will probably cost more than the Polo, but in my opinion.. the Polo looks better, inside and out. Yes, I do realize there might be something like an S1 someday, to compete with the Polo GTI, but frankly, the basic Polo looks better than the basic A1 to me.

By the way, would anyone be able to layer both the sideviews of the two cars on top of each other? I want to see how similar they really are..
I can't find a bigger image of the Polo..

Apparently the RS5 will have a brand new generation of the Quattro four wheel drive system, with a much more advanced center differential. There will still be a 40/60 distribution between the front and the back, but now it's also capable of sending 70% to the front or even 85% to the back when needed.
An electronic torque-distributor between the wheels on each axel will also boast sporty abilites.
More so, there will also be a "sport differential" as an extra option on the rear axel.

I like the look of thing thing, I really do.. But if I was able to fork out the money it costs, I'd be in a Porsche quicker than you can say Germany.

I saw a Focus RS in downtown Oslo the other day.
And I have to say, it looked cheap and plasticky. It also looked totally out of place.. almost like a clown car.
Considering the fact that it costs 125000$ over here, I'd never get one. Even if I did have that kind of money to spend on a car..

Good future prospects for Volkswagen Osnabrück

Minister President McAllister pays first visit
1,800 jobs at Volkswagen Osnabrück by end of 2011
Wolfsburg / Osnabrück, 29 October 2010 - David McAllister, Lower Saxony's Minister President and Volkswagen Supervisory Board member, visited the Volkswagen site in Osnabrück on Friday. Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft, updated McAllister on preparations for the start of production of the Golf Cabrio in spring 2011.

"Over the decades, some of the most beautiful models in the automobile world have left the assembly line in Osnabrück. We will be carrying on this tradition from 2011 with the new Golf Cabrio," Winterkorn said during the tour of the site. "The capacities and specialist skills available here are very valuable for our Group. We will be creating a total of 1,800 jobs at Volkswagen Osnabrück by the end of 2011. Osnabrück will therefore remain a high-performance automobile location in our Group alliance going forward.

The management board of Volkswagen Osnabrück informed the guests about present activities at the site. Apart from a tour of the Golf Cabrio body shop and assembly hall, the delegation also paid a visit to the training workshop, where 75 apprentices are currently undertaking their vocational training. A guided tour of Osnabrück's collection of unique Group models rich in history and tradition rounded off the program.

Lower Saxony's Minister President David McAllister underscored the particular efforts of former Minister President Christian Wulff to support Osnabrück as an automobile location. "Many people dreamt of the Beetle Cabrio, the Karmann Ghia or the Scirocco. It is wonderful to see this tradition being continued now and to know that automobile production in Osnabrück has a future. The new Golf Cabrio will be a great car. The extensive expertise in cabriolet construction that is available here is being harnessed."

Volkswagen Osnabrück was set up in early 2010 on the former site of the Karmann holding company. Just a few days ago, Volkswagen Osnabrück announced it would be integrating the technical development and metal units of the insolvent Wilhelm Karmann GmbH i. I. The Osnabrück plant with its workforce of over 1,000 will commence production of the Golf Cabrio in spring 2011.

I think it looks better than the Eos (which I'm guessing will be leaving the lineup now?)

Brand new BMW 6-serie convertible.. drooling, seriously..

Also the Norwegian site I first read about it on had the best typo in a long time.
They said that the roof retracts electronically, and that it only takes 19 minutes. hahaha

There's a brand new Aston. The Aston Martin Virage.
Seen a DB9? DBS? DB7, Vantage or Vanquish? Well guess what, the new one looks just like them!

6 liter V12 putting out 497 hp and 570 newtonmeters of torque.
Will also be available as a Volante (Convertible).

Looks great, like all Astons, but I really didn't care for the color on these pics.

Edit: And people say Porsche designers are lazy...
