b0nes posted:Several months ago I went to the Experimental Aircraft Association in Osh Kosh, WI, and I took a good number of pictures, I can post some up if there is any interest. Did you go to the show? Fun fact, for one week in the summer, Oshkosh, Wisconsin turns into the largest airport in the world. Its really really loving sweet and a mecca for any aeronautical enthusiast. Also, every bit of grass in this huge airport is filled with tents and at night, all hell breaks loose. Good times. For thoes who have not seen, here is James May in a U2 spy plane. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6cZLfK4Zjk Pretty loving amazing when they see a commercial airliner below them, about the same size as we see them standing on the ground. Mythbusters did it but found frozen newspaper to be harder than frozen sawdust. Either way, it melted in like a half hour. (only pics i could find, mythbusters do not deserve me getting the episode, and screen caping it) Content: from the pics that look like 'shops thread, Russian pilot goes a supposed mach 2 with no canopy in movie stunt.

Its a little dated, but for anyone who has not seen it and has 2 hours to spare, I highly recommend watching NOVA's : Battle of the X planes. Boomerjinks posted:Ehhhhh. I really wanted to like that documentary, but the airplane fag inside me kept screaming that they shouldn't have been called "x-planes". Prototypes of a craft intended for production deserve a Y designation, X-planes are for weird-rear end experiments and proof-of-concept aircraft. Haha I cant argue that. Although the fan lift idea is something out of a sci fi movie. Too bad the F35 might be axed anyway. Preoptopus fucked around with this message at 21:57 on Apr 6, 2010 |
