Q: What does a Sea King, a K1200, a King Air, and a P2V all have in common? A: I got them on video today to air attack for us during a huge forest fire. Then I uploaded them to youtube. So, I decided to go to flight school starting in January. I'm having a lot of trouble deciding if I want fixed wing or rotary though. Realistically, I want both, but I don't have that kind of money. I know we had a goon somewhere that was doing helo training, if you're him, PM me or something.

Not mil, I'm doing it through the local college (and hillsboro aviation if that means anything) Granted, I'm not looking at this completely for a ~career~, but it would be nice to know that if something happens with me firefighting that I'd have something to kind of fall back on. I guess a "job market report" on helos vs fixed wing is really what I'm looking for. The people at the school swear up and down its possible to transition to a turbine job after being a CFII for a year or two, but I've also heard the exact opposite of that. Really I just want to fly for enjoyment, but if I could get a job doing it, that's even better.

So, in Vancouver, WA there was an air museum called Pearson Air Museum. It was privately owned by a trust or something, and had some cool planes in it. The National Park Service apparently took it over at the beginning of the year, and the old people took their toys and went home, leaving it with basically nothing but the following:      (is that racist?)  Talking to one of the people that used to run the thing before it was taken over, he said "Well, they wanted an air museum... and that's just what they got. A museum filled with nothing but air." So, the other day I saw a flyer for a thing at the airport where the museum is located. I swear I thought it said "sit inside a T-38!" and I was beyond excited to get in one.
