Are domestic flights still generally half empty right now?

I'm asking because I know that Denver and Kansas City Centers are both working 70-75% of their normal traffic right now. However, TSA data shows that we're still under 30% of normal passenger numbers. The lack of international travel is obviously going to play into that but I know those numbers are well lower than domestic ones during normal times. So all I can think is that a large number of domestic flights aren't anywhere near full but they keep adding more. Am I way off here or is that at least somewhat accurate?

At least for awhile fuel was so cheap it was profitable to fly cargo on passenger jets with no passengers, and air cargo was backing up due to the reduction in flights as well, so plenty of demand. I don’t know if this is still true, but I don’t think it’s a trivial task to reconfigure petroleum distillation plants so I think there’s probably still cheap fuel for now.

If China actually wants to be taken seriously in space then they need to start playing like an adult and cleaning up their messes when they are done with their toys.

Leaving massive cores full of toxic crap to land who knows where is just nasty. I get that they don't give a poo poo about their own populace but what if that thing comes down in New York City, London, Paris, Moscow or even Beijing? Sure, it's not likely but the world is full of all kinds of historical examples of unlikely things happening.

If it's just a rocket stage then it has zero chance of making it to the ground.... anyone putting heavy things in orbit does the exact same thing, the only exception was the space shuttle.

China owns most of our debt, a shitton of nuclear weapons, all the factories making all the stuff we need, and a lot of the raw materials for what little we still make here. They also have several key US allies within easy bomber range of their borders. They have us by balls, they know it, we know it, and we aren't doing poo poo to them.

what exactly do you think they could do by holding our debt?

china: pay us now
usa: no

that could certainly impact the "credit rating" of the usa, but it's not like we have no international sway. if we did it for dumbass reasons that's a thing, but if they dropped a satellite on Manhattan or caused a big diplomatic incident, we also have that stick to play. neither side wins in such a situation, especially since we have been making payments for years and years and that cash flow helps China significantly. everyone knows they manipulate their currency value, they need USD as much as we need liquidity.

Our radio signals have only traveled a very very very small distance within our own galaxy, and even as such, they would be very weak and distorted. It's very unlikely they've been noticed.

Without FTL travel, it's so unlikely that we have been visited that it's reasonable to be extremely skeptical of any claim otherwise.

absolutely!

here's an example of this issue, might help illustrate how unlikely it is that anyone out there has found our signals.

quote:

Question: What is the signal strength in watts received by the VLBA that is transmitted from Voyager 1? I recall that Voyager 1 transmits at 22 watts and is nearly 20 billion km away, so how weak is the signal here? — Robert

Answer: The answer to your question happens to be included in a story about the VLBA detecting Voyager 1 in 2014. As you said, the radio strength of Voyager 1 is about 23 watts. This signal is directed toward Earth, but since Voyager 1 is about 15 billion kilometers from Earth, by the time Voyager 1’s signal reaches us its power is less than an attowatt, or a billionth of a billionth of a watt.

https://public.nrao.edu/ask/how-strong-is-the-signal-from-the-voyager-1-spacecraft-when-it-reaches-earth/

it takes an absolutely massive amount of energy to transmit clear signals over very large distances.... our AM radio signals aren't gonna cut it.

If that theory was really true, then we wouldn't have stuff breaking out before planes leave the ground and after they get back into the terminal.

Let's stop trying to attribute any sense that they are victims here. They are amoral self centered assholes that have had their brain poisoned by right wing media to the point where they would literally endanger themselves to champion a political position that the talky box told them to take.

That's why I say throw the book at them. Lifetime ban from at least that airline if not all of them. Period. Holding a whole plane hostage to violence (which is what you do when you act out at 30,000 feet) is terrorism and should be treated as such.
