Bummer, I didn't realize he was that old. I had a passing conversation with him about Frank Zappa outside a random Long Island bar and didn't realize who I was talking to until years later

I'm loving the Claypool Lennon Delirium. Unfortunate that the singer sounds too much like the guy from Tame Impala.

the joke is that Tame Impala's Kevin Parker is often accused of sounding almost exactly like John Lennon :smuggo:

"I was speaking to Sean Lennon and he told me I sound like his dad," says Kevin Parker, Tame Impala's leader. "So I guess if anyone's going to tell me I sound like John Lennon I guess he's the one with some sort of authority on it."

gonna be DJ'ing a prog night at a local bar in a couple weeks. it's a monthly event and it's usually hosted by this dude from Manchester but he's having surgery and I volunteered to take over. didn't think he'd go for it but the next thing I knew all his gear (which I do not really know how to use) was being loaded into my car. I'm excited to do it! It's pretty fun trying to figure out which tunes can be mixed into each other.

I've often pointed to Rock Bottom as one of the few LPs out there where what was going on in the artist's head is exactly what you hear on the record, idk how to explain it exactly but so few musicians seem to accomplish that. Todd's A Wizard/A True Star is another one.

in other news...I'm starting to think the greatest prog album ever made might be Wobbler's From Silence to Somewhere. I know there's very little original here, in fact the band doesn't really have it's own distinctive voice in a sense, however this album does manage to remind me of pretty much every great prog record ever made

Assuming you're talking about that Is There Anyboy Out There? two disc thing and not the [i[Live in Berlin[/i] that Waters did?

You can still get the CD from Amazon or probably your local record store. I don't think it's on streaming though.

Yeah. I saw them four days later at their last ever tour gig and it was amazing.

My copy of Saucerful of Secrets: Live at the Roundhouse arrives today. Looking forward to that, I saw them on the Meddle tour and it was another great live show. The way they reworked Echoes to not revolve (sorry) around Rick Wright's keyboards while not dismissing his importance to the track was extremely impressive.

I consider myself a pretty big prog rock fan, but I know I have big blind spots, this album being one of them. I asked the Alexa to play it this morning, and so it played some of it (which was great) and then a bunch of related stuff, and man, Gong is my new favorite band. And Camel is great too! I need to fill in some of these blind spots.

I caught the Geddy book tour and it sounds like he wants to make more music, but who knows. They did a photo montage leading up to the start, starting with pics of Geddy as a kid and going through the career. A lot of it was childhood/teenage years, and then a ton of super early Rush photos, so you were sitting there for a while before the first picture of Neil, and it was this headshot of him as a young guy and this enormous smile on his face, and the entire audience went “awwww” in unison. 800-1000 people. A moving picture.

I think we'll definitely see Geddy and Alex making music together at some point again. Whether they call it Rush or not is definitely up for debate, but we will hear something from them.

I've been listening to a lot of synth era Rush lately. Power Windows is such a great album that I slept on for way too long.
