From what I've heard, the LA parts are incredibly meh, and while the Lyoko parts are supposed to be really good looking, it also has issues with it undoing the ending of the original series and then ending on a cliffhanger which all together leads to most fans of the original series ignoring it for the most part(not that the original series didn't have it's own flaws, like a lot of the early episodes being practically unwatchable due to being not only incredibly repetitive, but also the Lyoko segments being crap due to the kids being ridiculously incompetent in every meaning of the word)

part of the reason CN screwed over most of it's DC shows between Batman:BATB and TTGO was that CN and DC have a REALLY bad relationship for two companies that are owned by the same people, which combined with most of the recent DC shows prior to TTGO only getting average ratings at best made it so it was in CN's best interest to screw over DC's stuff(similar thing happened with most of their non-Ben 10 action series over the last 8 or so years, especially if they were made by an outside studio, part of the reason that Hasbro tried to make The Hub into the sole destination for most of it's stuff after CN screwed them over during Transformers Animated's third season, otherwise we probably would have gotten most of The Hub's original programming on CN if it was even made)

for me besides the overabundance of melodrama, the main thing I didn't like about most of LoK was that the Bending combat was mostly mediocre compared to ATLA for almost the entire show, still the show had it's moments, including having some very good villains(ignoring Season 2), the Wan 2 parter, and the Series Finale was actually pretty great even if they stretched out taking down the giant robot a bit too long

I think that trying to have a serious overarching plot was a wrong move, as evidenced by the first Hey Arnold movie bombing so terribly. Finding out that Arnold's parents are actually alive in the jungle somewhere and he goes to rescue them and the big twist ending is that his last name actually is "Shortman" and it's not just a term of endearment from his Grandpa is the kind of thing that's funny to read about after the fact but probably wouldn't have meshed at all with the actual show.

In retrospect it very much feels like The Simpsons in the way that they created such a big cast of characters and was able to use them all to great effect. If anything it's even more impressive because Hey Arnold is so much more grounded and small-scale.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ByZ1-8eLCW4&t=646s

part of the reason the Movie bombed so hard was that it was never intended to be a theatrical production at all, it was originally going to be a TV Movie, and then Nick decided to put it in theaters for some retarded reason which torpedoed the plans for The Jungle Movie(which was the movie they wanted to do for theaters) and lead to the series being canned, meanwhile the plans for The Patakis spinoff died due to it being too mature for Nickelodeon at the time and MTV not wanting it due to it being superficially similar to Daria(which had recently ended if I recall properly at the time)

I wonder how much of a train wreck it was backstage on that show. It seems like managing a bunch of different technical equipment on a low budget show in the 90s would be a nightmare.

Add to that the standard problems of working with small children.

from what I read online Nick Arcade actually ran pretty smoothly outside of the technical issues with their more involved homebrew games(helps that the host was apparently really good at handling the contestants both on-screen and off), indeed the only game show that seemed to regularly have any issues was Legends of The Hidden Temple, and that was more due to it being one of the hardest children's game shows to have ever existed(seriously compared to a lot of other game shows for kids it has an abysmal win ratio)

I love Bugs Bunny and Looney Tunes, but some moments on there are truly hosed up. You can't even show a lot of the old cartoons on TV anymore because tobacco and smoking are a part of so many of them.

Personally I've never seen the smoking parts in old cartoons to be problematic, especially since if someone's smoking it'll often backfire on them in some way in these sorts of things, not to mention they often bring up the disgusting aspects of smoking if there's any direct focus on it, if I weren't posting from my phone I'd link that Goofy short from the George Geef years where he tries to quit smoking for exactly those reasons(that and the short is freaking hilarious)

Also while there's often some uncomfortable racial moments in old animation and comics, I think it's better to use that sort of thing for educational reasons than to just bury it behind a wall of shame(humor makes a better teacher than shame in my opinion when it comes to showing kids about why racism and other forms of prejudice are bad), not to mention it's often funny if for different reasons than originally intended(for how ridiculous people could be back then about that sort of thing, instead of the various reasons people found that sort of thing funny back then)

Yeah, I don't think I've seen an example in a Looney Tune where smoking is cool. Usually it just ends up with Daffy Duck or someone smoking a stick of dynamite.

Off the top of my head smoking itself is never shown to be cool, but they have used it to indicate that someone is cool(or at least trying to be cool), although they also tended to show smoking as being somewhat respectable in moderation(which makes sense since this was before people realized that Smoking really could kill you, and not just people who smoked 5 packs in a day)

It's kinda interesting when in comparison you see how Animation tends to treat other forms of recreational drugs over the years(like how Weed is generally treated in a mostly positive manner outside of a handful of incredibly hamfisted afterschool specials and episodes in the 80's and 90's)

Also trying to go back and watch Reboot with no nostalgia goggles shows it for what it is: poorly aged with really dated writing. It's not just that it looks bad, it can't help that due to tech constraints, nothing about that show has aged well. Although I did enjoy Cubix, speaking of badly animated cartoons, so maybe I just found Reboot boring.

In defence of Cubix I liked how the robots malfunctioned, and Kan It was a fun character. I also liked Dr K's other minions, Kannon, Krab, Kolosal and Katastrophe. (He named all his inventions so that he could introduce then like so: "Meet Kannon! With a "K"!")

One of the robots names took me too long to get though, the evil robot that copied other robots I initially heard as Killerbot, which made sense due to him being the most dangerous, then I paid closer attention: his name was Kilobot because he was 1000 robots in one due to his ability to copy other robots abilities. He was also badass, he disabled Cubix by copying his ability to seperate his body parts at will, trapped cubixes parts between his own parts and just pulled together to crush Cubix's individual components
:black101:

Cubix was a weird show, although looking back I'd say the main issues were how the humans looked(the robots in comparison had pretty good designs), and the English dub really doesn't age well at all, it's one of those ideas that could benefit from a reboot

Disney shows other than Gravity Falls, including Kim Possible, Phineas, Wander and that one new show with the magical girl wand, all always seemed to be real boring to me. I think it's because they're not aimed at or written by weirdo adults who watch children's cartoons, like most CN shows throughout the years. I can't see the Disney show creators drawing porn of their characters on the side unlike Rebecca Sugar or John Kricfalusi, for example

And as for Nickelodeon, I feel like they were always sort of the third children's network, I don't really think the market is big enough to support three of them. CN is more of an animation for animation's sake network, Disney is more of a wring money out of tweens network, and Nick is caught in the middle of that and can't do either as well as CN or Disney

Nickelodeon I wouldn't be surprised to see collapse as a network within the next 5-10 years really(possibly the rest of Viacom as well, as I've heard they haven't been doing so hot the last couple of years)

The weirdest thing about The Looney Tunes Show was how they barely used Elmer Fudd despite him being one of the most iconic characters, when they could have easily had him be the Newman to Bugs' Seinfeld, which was something oddly lacking in the show

It was an awesome chance to explore Fin's character dealing with a dissability that they wasted because they were afraid to keep his character design changed for too long. Which is BS because people would have been stoked to see him running around with a robot arm.

They've been doing this crap since season 3 when they returned PB to being an adult as soon as possible(this episode soured me on Lemongrab for a long time as a result, I eventually came to like him as well, although I still think Too Young is a very mediocre episode) starting a trend of the show crapping on Finn whenever possible(heck I can't even remember the last time Finn won a fight by himself without a Deus Ex Machina being needed)

Also found it ridiculous that when Lemongrab went full North Korea that PB went with such a convoluted plan to defeat him when she could have had Finn kick his rear end, or just have Rattleballs assassinate the jerk(kinda weird that we haven't seen him since despite the end of his episode showing that he works for PB now), cause as seen with how PB handles the Fire Kingdom, it's definitely the sort of thing she'd do

I don't know, Finn doesn't get ridiculously depressed to the point of trying to draw all attention to his tragedy. When he does get depressed, he just tends to get quieter and deals with all of his problems via active aggression: beating the poo poo out of everything. I mean, yeah, that's not going to be as melodramatic as Pearl basically screaming to the sky about Rose not getting it on with her, but Finn's far from dull. He just keeps it light and on the occasion where violence isn't doing it for him, he gets inquisitive about dealing with his problems, like the time he became Davey.

That said, I got to agree, the show's general character development tries reaching for something big constantly and then just falls flat on its face. In particular, Finn's dad was just put on a one way bus to never coming back and without really any fanfare. The show's never really been big on a singular direction, but if it's trying to go for that with at least few ongoing plots, it needs to get centralized better.

the thing is, Finn's been depressed for like 90% of all the episodes since he broke up with Phoebe, and he hasn't even been engaging in a lot of violence lately(and like 80% of the time he even gets into a fight anymore he gets his rear end handed to him almost immediately when in the early seasons he was pretty consistently portrayed as one of the most competent fighters in all of Ooo who didn't use magic or some such), the problem is that Finn's been BORING for the majority of the time since then, and a boring main character is a horrible albatross for a cartoon to bear
