OK, finally got a chance to put some DNB on my phone to listen to in the car, managed to get a DJ Hype mix, a High Contrast mix, and the Pendulum essentials mix. They all kick lots of rear end, thanks for the suggestions!

Also, I don't have speakers at my work PC, but isn't Reso more of dubstep producer? Or does he go back and forth between genres? Anyways, if you like Reso, the Reso - Shower Half Hour mix is absolutely badass.

Reso is mainly dubstep, but really hard-edged usually IMO, but he has done some really good, spacey sounding tunes around 140 BPM. I was a tear-out breaks fan, years ago, and when I got in to dubstep he really caught my attention. The past year he has really branched out to other tempos (check his releases on Civil Music), and now has three drum'n'bass tracks out ("Mind Games" on Civil, "Slap Chop" on Hospital and his remix of The Qmeists on Ninja Tune), and I've heard he's got more in the pipeline.

I thought it sounded familiar, but I didn't put two and two together.

Been working on a 30-40 minute set for a gig I have next Friday. One of the promoters around here is having a DJ competition and whoever gets the most "votes" gets a headlining spot at a local festival. The catch is that the competition will be in the lounge during dubstep/dub-techno show with Cyberoptix and DJ Shiva. I'm hoping to rope in a few undecideds by dropping a dubstep track or two at the end.

OP would you object to me writing a bit of extra stuff for the original post? You covered a lot of bases but theres a lot of stuff missed out that desperately needs mentioning!

edit: I say a bit of extra stuff, but I'd be up for writing a properly comprehensive megathread OP, like several times what you've already got. If you're cool with that i'll start expanding on what you've already written :)

I've been DJing DnB music for the last 4 years so I would be more than willing to help put that OP together. Perhaps we should break it off into the different subgenres? I know liquid/minimal really well, but I wouldn't call myself well-trained in techstep/neuro/dark poo poo

That would be wicked, yeah I've been DJing a couple of years and my specialty is tech/neuro/dark so it looks like together we could do a sick OP. Haha I'm procrastinating pretty hard from my finals so I've already written 2000 words for it, I'll PM you what I've got when it's done and you can add whatever you want. safe!

Let me know what you want me to add in and I will. Or, if you want to type up a megapost filled with information I left out, go right ahead!

I just don't think we need a new thread already. And really, I was just trying to cover the basics of DNB that the last thread's OP lacked severely.

Aw gently caress, I really want to see this but I'm on my iPhone and for some reason these videos aren't supported on the iPhone. Not sure why, exactly. Guess I'll have to wait til I get home from work later.

While searching around, I saw there was a video titled " Pendulum Immersion Part 5" and it was 10 minutes long. So has the album leaked or is that a fake?

I believe that's just part 5 of the recording of the album preview show they did back in January.

Oh yeah, right.

I'm surprised it hasn't leaked. It comes out in like 10 days, so even if it did, I'll just wait til I can buy a CD.

I saw a picture on Rob's Twitter of him unboxing a box of CDs, so maybe that has something to do with why it hasn't leaked, like the band just got copies in themselves or something.

Yeah, I think they barely made the deadline given the nature of Rob's posts on twitter a few weeks ago during post-production. I really want to give the full album a listen soon.

Oh my GOD. I'm just now getting to listen to the previews, and they're even better than I was expecting. This is seriously going to be Hold Your Colour Pt. 2, but from what I'm hearing, it sounds like it may surpass HYC in some ways.

Cannot loving wait to have a copy of this album in my car. Driving around listening to In Silico cranked up has been one of my absolute favorite things to do for the past couple years, and I'm sure Immersion will continue the tradition :)

The only issue with the new lp is that it sounds like seven of fifteen tracks have the same drum break (I have no idea if I'm using this terminology correctly - the basic drum beat in the song) that pendulum used for most of HYC. That's frustrating, but the longer the album goes on, the less frequent it gets. Not to say the early songs in the tracklist don't sound good, but they DO sound very samey because of extremely similar beats.

It always amazes me that a band/producer with such high productions standards is so happy to copy/paste their drums. I'd genuinely like an instrumental version of the entire album, their vocals piss me off so much.

Yeah you're not kidding there, they hosed the naming up. It's In Flames ft Rob Swire because I cannot hear a single DnB/Pendulum influence barring them trying to use the DnB beat kinda for some drum sections. Also with salt in the wounds that makes it, what, 3 tracks that they've made now that seems like when they wrote the albums they sat around and went "know what was a really good song? Slam!"
