Oh yeah there's loads of repeats. I'm trying to break out of that, it's very easy to lean on certain familiar tracks. I feel like I want to create more specific playlists for these nights (which I'm thinking of making a regular thing) curated a bit more tightly than my larger crates. Seems like that dark techy roller sound is still mostly my thing, I tried to amp up the energy level near the end there and it was rather messy; the stompy stuff doesn't generally do it for me anymore. That and the major/minor thing going on with that Houndeye tune Follow Me was... interesting.

I keep watching these streams and links you guys post because I have this weird love/hate relationship with DnB, and you guys help me kind of narrow down my tastes by example. I think stems mostly from genre-fatigue and I keep listening to just things online just slapped with a DnB tag and I almost always walk away because it's not the sound I'm looking for, but by the same token I don't know the right sub-sub-sub-sub-genre to invoke to call up the actual stuff I love. My stab at this: My background growing up with DnB was mostly jungle and stuff like the more minimal Photek, LTJ's stuff, so I think I naturally kind of slide into what I understand "liquid" or more "atmospheric jungle" to be. As with any genre there are hits and misses so sometimes when I tune into a stream someone is on my wavelength but the song is just meh and that's not an issue. Then there's "DnB" that I can't really put into a genre box which sounds like it's bordering on dubstep or like it's just dance music with a really fast beat or I dunno. Trying to nail down that je ne sais quoi about any genre you love with your ears and your heart but not your brain is the path to madness so I don't really try, except now that I'm in the position of trying to DJ some of it and tracking down what you love just turns into a game of clicking recommended tracks on stuff you already like. I don't think I have a point to make here, just another expression of how absolutely picky I am with my music and frustration that there's no easy mode for finding what you like other than wading through mountains of material. Which -- I'm 45 now, I want to experience all the good music before my time is up, so I'm really thankful for you guys exposing me to a lot, one way or the other! And Speaker, I bet everyone is at least somewhat nervous before they go live -- you definitely fall into your set super naturally and confidently though. Lemme tell you man, if internally you're in "fake it till you make it" mode, externally you definitely project "made it". As a beginner I'm just in awe of anyone who handles the decks with such calm and confident demeanour. From the top where I watch John Diggers nonchalantly play festivals, down to local DJs and online streamers. Super aspirational all the way down.
