It's very, very sick.

I'm on the fence about purchasing it. What's the most similar song / artist you can give me? The tracks I've listened to on youtube have left me sort of meh.

I'll just post the first song and you can decide for yourself:

He's on Hospital, and it sounds like other Hospital stuff for the most part (think bits and pieces of High Contrast, Cyantific, Danny Byrd, etc. all thrown together).

It's really loving good, though. Don't take that the wrong way.

Is it something about owning a physical copy, or just buying from hospital records or something? Because getting a CD and burning it from itunes stock isn't that hard. Not an indictment or anything, just curious.

If you wanted a vinyl of it, I'd understand perfectly.

Ahahah, I feel him though. In this day and age, I don't see a lot of difference between an MP3 purchase and a CD purchase, because a CD's gonna get ripped on my computer and shelved forever and never look at it again. I buy records and MP3s pretty exclusively now, haven't bought a CD in a while, last time I did it was a CD only release. (That could have something to do with me mostly buying singles, though)

I think there's definitely a gap between being a casual listener of dnb and someone who grabs up releases as soon as they hit digital distributors. I can definitely understand the want for an actual CD pressing with cover art, liner notes.

As a DJ, though, I don't care if it's a white label or official release. I want the tunes, not the art/notes.

I like having vinyl if it is the full art version, but I haven't bought any in over a year. Been trying to sell off a lot of promo copies of vinyl too, although there are certain releases that I would re-buy if I could find the full release version.

Pretty much any release that I liked that was designed by Jon Black / Magnet Design (lots of old Metalheadz and Ram releases, also did the early Test releases and I think maybe the first few Virus & Metro releases). Also, all of the Violence releases (Jon Black did a lot of these, I think the other main designers were Dean/DJG [dubstep producer] and a guy in Los Angeles), and Commercial Suicide releases.

To some people, Squarepusher is DNB. I wouldn't label him that way myself, but this isn't my first time hearing that label given to him.

I don't know what I'd call Squarepusher, actually. It's got DNB elements but it's not like it sounds anything like, say, High Contrast.

Oh, but it is! Aha!

I bought the MP3 download of the Netsky album. 100% worth it. Pirate Bay is awesome, as is the album mix that comes with it.

And I wanted a physical CD because.. I don't know, I just like having physical copies with the album art and liner notes. But only for my absolute favorite CD's. It seems like it'd make Hospital more money too, and I'm all for supporting them.

Anyone have any Hospital merch? I'm thinking of getting one of their "H" shirts. Wish they had pullover sweatshirts cuz I'd buy one of those in a heartbeat!

edit: of course the CD is in stock now.. damnit!

Just got back from AK1200 (he replaced Sigma at the last minute due to work visa complications). I haven't been to a dnb event in a while, and well...I don't think I can again for a good while. Not until all this overly heavy dubstep goes away. The other room was annoying grinding and silly laser bass the entire night. The dnb room was...strange and disconnected. Even during AK1200's set it didn't seem like a dnb scene, but more of a bunch of random people in a room while music was playing. The crowd was bad, and AK1200 was noticeably confused as to what direction to go in. I think he lost a lot of momentum really quick when the monitors stopped working in the middle of his first song. From there he had to long mix jump up to try to keep the crowd going, but after the 3rd song people spread out and left. By the end of the night I think about 8 people were left in the crowd. Overall his set was alright, too much jump up for my tastes, but I think I would have had a nervous breakdown dealing with a crowd like that. Anyway, if some of this doesn't make sense blame it on the fact that it's 4:26am.

Edits: Thanks for the mix Chris, I'll listen as soon as the ringing in my ears stops. Hopefully by morn.

hahah awww man that's so heartbreaking. i can see it in your story, he was trying sooo hard to win over the crowd. he is a hard dude, i've seen him mix up sets like crazy. if he's playing jump up after jump up track he's obviously trying to salvage something. that's so sad that a room can kill such a legendary, masterful dj like that.

Indeed, it was very painful to watch. I've have seen him throw down at the POTD's before, but last night was just weird. I will say though, Nashville has a habit of liking ridiculous jump-up on the borderline of clowny in respect to dnb. The crowd was crazy weird though, I don't blame AK one bit for that set.

So I haven't heard much talk of Mistabishi in this thread so far (There was a bit of chat in the other thread). I listened to Printer Jam back when it first dropped and was hooked.

I grabbed his album "Drop" as soon as it came out and was very impressed. My favourite tracks are The Light's Really Bad and White Collar Grime (Which is probably one of the filthiest dubstep tracks I've heard).

Mistabishi seems to have slowed down somewhat these days which I think is due in part to the "scandal" back in October last year where he played a pre-recorded mix at a show and pretended to DJ through the whole thing (http://www.mixmag.net/content/drum-n-bass-dj-mistabishi-faces-miming-accusations).

I feel sorry for Mistabishi as I really love his music and it seems like he has been mentally put back by that whole incident.

Edit: Mistabishi's latest track, Millwall, recently featured on Sick Music 2 (Hospital Records). It is more of a breakbeat track and feels very disjointed but it's still not bad.

Mistabishi's got some insane tunes. The Light's Really Bad is my favorite, too, and it's a great way to start off a mix. And Printer Jam is so goofy and fun that you can't help but love it.

Definitely download Drop if you're a fan of Hospital stuff.

Hadn't heard about that scandal, though. Kinda sucks, but he was on a big label and getting a fair amount of buzz, and if you're starting to become a big name like that, you should probably know better, but I don't know how all that works.

As for Bukem, I've only heard a few of his releases, but what I have heard has been awesome, and I definitely appreciate his contributions to the beginnings of DNB.

Looking at his discography, it seems like he hasn't been as active recently as he once was. Though he did do one of the FabricLive mixes last year. I haven't heard that yet, but I need to get on that.

In the hospital podcast London Elek was talking about one of the hospitality events and was like, "we've got ....... and mistabishi definitely won't be there."

All in all, people had a right to be as hilariously pissed as they were. It was a baldfaced lie to paying customers. Regardless, he's a good producer, but you just can't pull that crap.

Also printer jam kinda sucks after the first two listens; I'd rather it not be on the album in my listen-throughs because it's kinda obnoxious.
