However, I will be on Expansion Broadcast (https://www.expansionbroadcast.com) next Friday (July 30th), and I'm working on one or two mixes (probably not dnb for those) for some DC-area blogs. EXBC has several older dnb and dubstep sets of mine, too.

Plus it was $2 drink night, so that only made it exponentially better.

The Steez Promo guys that do the DubNation parties are definitely ones to watch, they put together some great events. Their next one is the Summer Massive on August 28th, they have LTJ Bukem as their drum'n'bass headliner, rare area appearance for him. Won't be as banging a set as TC's, but LTJ's style brings out a lot of people, and can be a lot of fun.

- "Aromatherapy": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bf557vcKPJg -- reminds me of seeing LTJ Bukem and a couple other UK DJs back in 1996/1997.

- "Metropolis": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4LQSiSXsMw -- dark strings, tough, tense breakbeat, the little drum fills. This song is part of what made the Metalheadz label my favorite label when I first got in to drum'n'bass.

- "Jaxx": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaKpTAhQfV4 -- the strings are moody, then that kind of robotic "ONE One one...", this was a glimpse of the Blue Note sessions for me. Then when I actually got to go one time, I can't remember what was played other than that Dom & Roland remix of Kaotic Kemistry (super super awesome), and EZ Rollers "Walk This Land".

- "Brand Nu Funk": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81L-4BodG6o -- hi mister "rewind me three times" song. The horns in the intro, that "brand new" vocal looping, the chunky rolling drums, the break down with the dark funk keys, and the chopped up hip hop sample, it was fun to hear out.

There still is, but it's mainly big shows run by Steez Promo at Bourbon St., and that is a tough production to catch a break with. I have played for Steez a handful of times over the years, even opened the dnb stage at Starscape this past summer, but a booking from them is not something I can bank on getting. They definitely have their locals that they stick to, and for good reason, as those locals have stuck with Steez since their start, or it is a local with big draw, which has big appeal to a promoter. Also, Steez Promo is tied to Circle Management now, which has North America's largest drum'n'bass roster, so any tours Circle might have coming to the states, most likely they will play a Steez event in Baltimore, DC or Richmond, VA.

There are a couple smaller things that go on, a lot of the raver crowd was going to a venue called The Black Hole which was in Dundalk, and they had a lot of drum'n'bass but it was mostly local & regional acts. And DC is not too far for someone in Baltimore, unless they do not have reliable transportation. DC has always had something going on too, even if I thought it was falling off. In reality I just didn't know about the events being booked, or in to the acts being booked.
