Not saying he isn't well known, just that he shouldn't be getting less attention from people getting into the genre than Pendulum or Evol Intent considering he's generally agreed to be much better.

Stumbled across this track in the middle of an acid-jazz/ bossa nova group. Nice use of a random dnb set.

Nice haul! The DJ Die remix of "The Planet Plan" was a sleeper, always loved it. What did you get off of Salvage and Dune? I still remember when Double A & Twist from Dune used to live in DC.

Dune:
Side A - Perceptual Register / Superstable Orbit
Side B - Stalactite / The Nerve

Salvage is the Robot Death Squad Therapy mix

All for 5-3$ Zion's Gate in Seattle is the best place to buy.

WOAH no you didn't. Every release since the start of 2009 has been pure fire. And most of the ones before that too.

Full Circle, Gangsta, Strange Science, Driftwood, Down the Line remix, Aztec, Absentis, Loose Ends, and the forthcoming release Stand Up?! Every single one of those tunes destroys a dance, and Gangsta, Full Circle and Aztec especially have been massive hits.

There's definitely a lot of disagreement among everyone over dnb but we'll not let the thread dissolve into that. Sorry I started a derail and let's get back to the music yes.

If I had to describe what it is, drum and bass is a genre where it's extremely important to control your build ups and breaks and know how to use the energy in the song. Noisia doesn't do a very good job of that at all.

Anae posted:

For example, these tracks have drums that, while totally different and mostly would not fit in your track at all, have been tailored to really suit the vibe of the track. It's incredibly hard to put your finger on it and it's even harder to put down in words but hopefully you understand what I mean.

To add to this, the word tailoring fits really nicely because that's exactly what you need to do. Listen to your track without the drums and do what it takes to really get a feel for the shape of it. Your drums right now are a frame for the music and while drums aren't really considered an instrument in the same regards as synths are, they still contribute or take away from the track depending on what you did with them.

Feel the spots where the track builds or talks or releases and adjust the drums accordingly. Most people won't notice if drums aren't perfect but if they are, it really adds something that makes people want to come back to the track. Cut the drums in certain places or break the beat. Imagine the drums as your background color for your painting. Do you really want it to be one solid color? Subtle changes make all the difference in the world. By using different "hues" or "shades" you can draw attention to certain parts. Keep the intensity.

I think the biggest piece of advice I can offer is that your personality and ideas shape the song. The drums don't really seem like they've seen that same love. Give them some attention, inject yourself into it and you'll have something unique that people will want to listen to.
