First time posting in this thread, but been monitoring it for some time, so I figured I'll debut with a Friday Five.

Since there's no set theme, and I missed out on the "tracks form a specific label" one, I'll do that...

Fokuz Recordings

The Square & Blue Motion Ft Msdos - You Don't Need Me (Incident Remix) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W46l5Mq-9kY

Love the combination of the atmopsphere and harder beats and bass on this one.

Fourward - White Noise Down (Original Mix) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImS3BdD6ifw

I seem to always play this tune out when spinning DnB

Side Effect - Abyss (Original Mix) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8YuPfM_euk

Simialr to the first tune posted, if you liked that one, this one is for you.

Paul Saint Jack & Stunna - Altered Prospects http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLDiFHwYEVo

I think Stunna is fairly well known in the more liquidy atmo type scene, brings his typical lightness here.

Drum Origins - Mystical Fields http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbFRcnna9gY

I don't own this but included because it's from the labels first release in 1999. Kinda wanted to compare it with the more recent releases above.

This one will be challenging for me as a late-comer to D&B. I'll give it a shot though and maybe educate myself in the process...

Acen - 116.7 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VMXrWGaf4pk
Sorry for this short version, I can't believe no one has uploaded the full tune on youtube! Wicked bassline.

EZ Rollers - Tough At The Top (Original Mix) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0y53pXbyQPo&feature=related
Yeah someone beat me to it, but I prefer that baseline on the original.

Trade Secrets - I Know You Got Soul (Acen Remix) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1272SlJ7MDQ
You gotta have soul.

Ed Rush, Optical & Fierce - Alien Girl http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOrKiEqTcio
Deviating bit from the Higher Education label, let's get harder and darker.

Roni Size - 26 Bass http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3EtDfNTxZuc
Call me crazy but this is the only Roni Size tune I really like.

I got my first gig playing some ambient, minimal, and jazzy drum n bass this Sunday, I doubt there's anyone from Arizona let alone Flagstaff up in this thread but for what it's worth...

I normally play breaks but for the past few years I have steadily built up a collection of DnB and now I think I'm ready for it.

Here's some music that makes me reminisce about good times. About soft grass against my back, the sun on my face, and the laughter of friends. I hope it makes you feel something too.

Moleman - Sinking

Slowhill - Tenho (Muffler remix)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-VwFjZfUrw

Chew Lips - Karen (Netsky remix)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VCaEl8GwI0

These are great and would fit right in, thanks! I'm definitely gonna try to play Sinking and Tenho.

Maybe it's just me but the Dirtyphonics Remix sounds exactly the same as the original just sped up 35 BPM.

I can't say it's crap, it certainly sounds cool loud n all that, but I like a little more soul.

And since I missed the Jump Up get hyped poo poo Friday, this also sounds really cool loud...

I heard someone say something about a minimal friday five, let's keep this alive...

Bop - Skeptikos
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4RuXH4smI0

Got kinda of a glitch thing going on with the drums and wobbly bass, there's a spacey whistle to round things out.

Parhelia - Spaceship Named Andromeda
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sU7c3O3r5hc

Starts off real ambient, then grows to sort of an uplifting rhythm.

Marcus Intalex - Airborne
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQGp19IPQww

Lush ambientness all about here especially that breakdown. Bit heavier than the previous tunes. Probably my favorite Intalex tune, there's also a new album out that I would recommend checking out.

Dissident - I Wish I Was A Hubble Telescope
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66cTL-7WJK8

Were gonna go a little deeper. Back to the glitchy percussion, but now with a nice dark rolling bassline. If you like this, the whole complication (Meditation In Dance) is really cool.

FX909 & Caine - Anchorage
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToaBdv6OGzw

Fokuz Recorders is easily one of the best labels I follow. Gonna round things out on kinda of a trancey trip.

So Hospital Records just released their Hospitality: Festival Drum & Bass album. The mix is pretty good and worth picking up. I know some people aren't a fan of Hospital's generic liquid sound, but the album has a lot of fresh music that's not all from their label.

I like the MRSA track, but I was really surprised at how aggro some of these tunes were, such as the Nosia and Phace ones, not really my thing for the most part.

Also the rivalry between those boards always made me laugh.

I found this awesome Dnb thread a few weeks ago and basically went thru it entirely and I found so many new and old tunes to add into my mixes it's incredible, you sirs have good tastes :tipshat:

Friday Five Time!

Following is my top 5 tunes of the year...

No particular order, all are light on the ears easy liquid atmospheres. I think most are from the summer.

Fracture Design - The Lights Within Her Eyes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KzV4XLcU-c

A piano and a whaling female cry lead this tune, really blissful.

The Real Transported Man & LabuaX - Breathe (Stunna Remix)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rwjnpkdw-KU

Kinda hypnotic high end percussion stuff going on here, great breakdown and feel to it.

Intelligent Manners - Get Back
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-i1eXlL6MQ8

Most soulful track on here, light and skippy.

Incident - Indigo Shade
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPJl1GiwFfw

Another kinda trancey feel but a bit more aggressive than any of these other tracks.

Loz Contreras - Sarajevo (Hosta Remix)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaTXOYtAj1k

Real simple tune to round this out, not much going on but it's really catchy, a simple horn and arpeggiation.

I'll play...

Friday Five Resurrection: Holy poo poo, Remixes!

-"Hush Little Baby (Fred V & Grafix Remix)" - Wretch 32. If you haven't heard of Fred V & Grafix by now shame on you!

-"make Peace Not War (Blame Remix)" - Skepta. Pretty popy Hip Hop and DnB but I think it's catchy.

-"In And Out Of Phase (Calyx & TeeBee Remix)" - Andrew Bayer & Matt Lange. Take a hint Trance producers.

-"Daddy (Fred V & Grafix Remix)" - Emeli Sande. More Fred V & Grafix magic.

-"By The Wind (Derrick & Tonika Remix)" - Shyma. Ending with a softer touch here.

Mister Speaker posted:

Thanks, that means a lot! The cameras are Sony FDR-X3000 action cams. There used to be three of them but I lost one on a motorcycle ride. They're mounted to various things like laptop stands using small articulating arms from SmallRig - you can see that one of them is mounted to a boom mic stand on the desk that's also carrying that SM7B microphone (which I never use because I haven't really spun with an MC yet), but this allows me to sort of change that one angle on the fly, within reason. Each camera is connected via HDMI to a BlackMagic ATEM Mini switcher, and via USB to a powerbar since I don't feel like wasting the cameras' batteries. You can also see a RotoLight mounted to one of the articulating arms to get some light on the gear, since I'm sort of standing in the way of the chandelier (lol) in my room.

The switcher is sort of the core part of streaming, because it'll take up to four HDMI signals, and spit them out as USB3 so your computer sees it as a webcam. Natch, it also does some fancy wipes and fades and picture-in-picture but I haven't really tried any of that stuff yet. It's plugged into the laptop seen close to the screen, but since I fear that laptop is on its way out and OBS seems to report more dropped frames than ideal, I also have a USB3 cable running to my desktop to use that as the streaming machine. The monitor you see above the ATEM switcher is an Atomos Ninja V, a fantastic little recorder/monitor for cinematography that can record up to 4K to a SSD.

Instead of recording within OBS (and further straining the laptop), I use the Ninja V (and some fun timecode gear like the Denecke slate and TCS wireless timecode boxes, even though I don't need to do that at all it looks cool and it's good practice) to get a raw recording of the set, which due to some weird fuckery with how it sees the action cams, always ends up as, I think 1080p 60fps, and also there's a slight delay, about three frames, between the audio and video. I drop the extra-bigass file into Premiere, add my silly little title screen and fades, fix the audio delay and throw some mastering plugins on the audio stream, then it's done.

I've got some friends over at FAT32 Studios who are working on something even cooler that's actually a custom job and I have NO idea how it works... but basically when they iron out the kinks it will facilitate sub-millisecond latency for remote B2B sets. Which is loving nuts, and I don't even really like B2B sets.

EDIT: Realized I didn't answer your first question. No the switching is not automated, you can see me hit a button on the ATEM every now and then. I don't know if the unit even has that feature, but if it doesn't it's the one feature I want that it's missing.

Thanks for your effortpost it is appreciated and insightful. Don't think I'm ready to get that deep into it but you've inspired to hook up a couple of webcams with OBS and actually record some stuff for a change. Watch this space!

I have an odd request. Do any of you have (or would be willing to make) any 155 bpm mixes? I realise that is the very low end of d&b but I thought it would be worth asking.

It needs to be 155 bpm because I want to jog in time to it and 155 bpm is exactly the right pace.

Tracklist vibe swings wildly but all the tunes are 155 exactly. Pls don't judge my mixing playing these at - 10% or so makes it really strange sounding to mix. Also the tunes still might sound "off" but I think the pioneer master tempo will be better than an audacity tempo change. In face there's a guy who plays Psy Trance that's normally 140 at 122 to mix it in with more progressive stuff and it sounds really good (like objectively cause psy trance is poo poo).

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-fV6nqNr_dHIq83NRo0Aw8rglDQDu2Ib/view?usp=sharing

I started with some modern liquid that I usually play just pitched down but I didn't like the way it sounded so I edited those out and faded in when I got to more experimental tracks closer to the target BPM. If it doesn't have to be Dnb I could make a longer mix of wave/liquid bass stuff that cruises at 155 easy. Was fun thanks for the idea.

Okay I'll kinda organize this thing, if you want on the list :justpost: or PM me.

"Rules"
- Post mix on First Friday of your month
- Make it at least 30 mins
- Easily streamable/downloadable [soundcloud, mixcloud, google drive, ect...]
- DnB or adjacent (halftime, juke, footwork, clownstep, liquid, neuro, jungle, intelligent, just keep it in the 170ish breakbeat kingdom)
- Any equipment, Ableton to records, doesn't have to be live just share some interesting stuff

If you're not a DJ or are away from your decks a custom youtube playlist would be cool option.

Schedule (In order of requests):

March: Nullification
April: chrix
May: Mister Speaker
June: Dirt Road Junglist
July: Virgil Vox

I can jump in as a substitute anytime, I'm on decks like ~12 hours a week.

What do yall think? We can spam the mixes in some other related threads and get this thread a little more action? Plus I wanna hear everyone's take on DnB!

Like I said, I've been in a terrible funk lately, depressed and anxious and all that sad poo poo. I haven't downloaded - or really even listened to - any new music since the end of last year. So, I used that as an opportunity to make this mix kind of a retrospective. Trying out some transitions with songs that I'm less familiar with than the usual routine. This is also the first time (I think) that I've re-used a couple of tracks from previous OPS mixes, because those are some of my favourite 'bridging' selections - first one to spot all three of them gets a free avatar on me or something? lol idk, anyway I'm pretty loving proud of this mix. It was labour-intensive and it really paid off.

Some heavy horsepower here. I've also been in that same funk with not really listening or downloading much new esp from DnB at the moment, only recognized a couple things and those were heavily remixed. Cool to see Last Jungle get it's time to shine, always loved that one and thought it should have been bigger but I think the original was like ~145bpm so tough to fit into sets. Technimatics Flashbulb was very cool too, I like the confidence you have throwing something softer in there, nice switch-up. And that's something I love about DnB in general, so many different moods and vibes all at the [roughly] same tempo so if you got the tunes that work you can really flip the sound (and back sometimes) with one track.

Fav track was prolly at the 48 min mark.

I liked the first ~25min section the most, but impressed the energy level stays throughout the mix. There was like one of those foghorn type tunes in there and it really shows how good those are when used sparingly, I think I actually did the bass face thing. The halftime stuff is really foreign to me but I enjoyed listening, seems like it lends itself well to that quick mixing too. Great production quality; sounds great, multiple cameras, nice room. You put work into it and it shows, again thank you for your effort!

...oh yeah the tracksuit owns too lol
