For my Friday 5 (gateway theme), if I were to introduce someone to DnB, personally, I would start of with a couple remix tracks. The Prodigy - Voodoo People (Pendulum Remix) - While Pendulum can be frowned upon, I find this is a pretty decent starter track for someone to get a feel for DnB. The Fugees - Ready or Not (DJ Hype Remix) - This is one of the first ones I heard and at the time I had considered "The Fugees - The Score" as one of my all time favorite albums. To see Ready or Not Jungle remix, I fell in love some more. Edit: Found one more remix that I fell in love with in 1999... Swoosh and DJ Magic - Public Enemy Remix or this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7ZSd2MEAz4&feature=related Then I'd throw some catchy goodies at them. Sub Focus - Airplane - This one actually did get a buddy of mine into DnB more. High Contrast - Racing Green - Just plain awesome Aphrodite - Man of Steel - Another early track that caught my attention when I was first getting into DnB. As for albums, I'd suggest - Roni Size - Touching Down High Contrast - Tough Guys Don't Dance Andy C - Nightlife DJ Dara - Further Subfocus - Sub Focus Boywunda fucked around with this message at 17:52 on Feb 25, 2011 |

SUBFRIES posted:This was actually by the Vinyl Syndicate guys up in Toronto. One of the few jump-up tunes I still have on vinyl (I think I still have it?). I used to have that Fugees remix, the original pressing, although even that may have been a bootleg (stolen DAT?), but I foolishly sold it for $15 to someone in Germany years ago. Up here in Winnipeg, MB, Canada, I first heard the Man of Steel track in a bar in 1999 (called U4ia), that typically focused a lot on Hard House/Hard Dance (during the Lock n Load, DJ Jean, Lisa Lashes, Hypertrophy, The Shrink, Darude, etc...) and they threw this it in the mix and I literally stopped mid sentence during a conversation with a buddy of mine to actually listen to it. Man...I miss that bar and those times. SUBFRIES posted:Also, I almost posted the Commix LP and the Sub Focus LP. "Timewarp" is so sick, and I have friends that bug out about "Air Plane", will run around the dance floor with their arms out to the side trying to get me to play it. I honestly thought it was a Concord Dawn tune the first few times I heard it though. When I picked Airplane, I actually was gonna post X-Ray, cause I like it better, but then thought that since friends of mine liked it and it actually helped him get into the genre more, i decided to go with it.

I think I'll go back to an "older" artist as well. I was thinking about posting Zinc, but his tracks are all over the place, ranging from jungle, dnb, dubstep, house to his current stuff, self-proclaimed "crackhouse". So I decided to go with Dillinja. Dillinja - Twist Em Out - One of his more popular tracks (and I went with the version without Skibadee, not really a huge MC fan) Dillinja - Grimey - First Dillinja track I heard and still a classic to this day. Dillinja & Lemon D - Valve Sound - So deep, soo good. Dillinja - Hard Noize - Arguably his best best/most popular track to date. Dillinja - All Aboard - My ABSOLUTE favorite Dillinja track!! Some of these seem like obvious choices...but they're obvious choices for a reason - they're soo good. Edit: Some notables I left off - Go Dillinja, Human Bebop, Nasty Ways, Deadliest Deep Subs Boywunda fucked around with this message at 20:34 on Mar 4, 2011 |

Also, thought I'd include some commentsRageaholic Monkey posted:High Contrast Love each track, however I would have thrown in Racing Green and Basement Track. As well as Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, while not one of his best, it's one of my favorites, I can't seem to get it out of my head whenever I hear it. Dr. Goonstein posted:Sub Focus When the idea for today's theme, I immediately though of Sub Focus, but alas it was stolen by you. Great choices. Personally, I would have added some of his pre-album release stuff. Specifically X-Ray. In Andy C's earlier Nightlife albums, my favorite parts were always the multiple Sub Focus tracks he included. SUBFRIES posted:Decoder Thank god you threw in Hazardous and Hord 39. Decoder has sooo much to choose from, but those two tracks are ones that I would choose as favorites in general, not just by Decoder. I'm so glad we came up with a Friday selection, it almost seems as though this thread has been resurrected because of it.

gently caress it, posting anyways...only 2 High Contrast remixes...but 2 that I doubt anyone else would pick. Eric Prydz - Niton (The Reason) (Sigma Remix) - Pretty recent, but an absolute monster!! Dizzee Rascal - Dirtee Cash (Sub Focus Remix) - I know Rascal features quite a bit of DnB, but this is by far my favorite! Tiësto feat. Jónsi - Kaleidoscope (High Contrast Remix) - I don't know what it is about this remix, but first time I heard it, I played it non-stop for months. MGMT - Time to Pretend (High Contrast Remix) - Same thing - non stop Monden - Requiem for a Dream - If someone can find a better DnB remix of a classical....let me know.

Here's my poor attempt at a Friday 5. Believe it or not, I actually had a bit of a hard time coming up with 5 tracks for this off the top of my head, so I had to go through some of my stuff and visualize a fight scene with each one. Which led to an incredibly fun afternoon actually. Got zero work done, but meh, who cares...it's Friday!! Dieselboy - Invid - I can totally picture the scene starting off where someone enters a dark warehouse type area all alone and in the background you start to see the "villains" appear. You see the "hero" start to get nervous. He gathers himself. Then it drops and all poo poo breaks loose!! Original Sin - Overfiend - Aggressive dark alley fight scene. Nice and smooth drop that builds up very nicely. I love the middle slow down after the first "fight" is finished and then it drops again for the final battle. Sub Focus - Juno - I can picture like an epic spaceship battle scene - ala Star Wars or something. It's that horn that does it for me. Like the announcement of their impending doom. Bad Company - Planet Dust - This one probably fits the fight sequence of the spaceship battle scene better. Reaperz - Total Annihilation - Speaks for itself. I can pretty much place a lot of Reaperz tracks into a fight/battle scene some how.

^^^^^I guess you posted just while I was compiling my post...and look, one duplicate...though Fire is a must!! Pretty un-lively Friday today boys. So I'm giving more than 5 jungle tracks. Mostly all classics that I would assume most of you have all heard. But for the guys who didn't listen to a lot of jungle int he 90s, here you go. Mental Power - Gold (Formation Colour Series) - ANy of the formation colour tracks are amazing - DJ SS - Black especially. Ray Keith - Chopper (Shy FX remix) Demolition Man ft. Prizna - Fire Dillinja - The angels fell DJ Krust - Warhead Shy FX - Wolf Andy C & Shimon - Quest DJ Hype - Rinse Out M Beat feat General Levy - Incredible Boywunda fucked around with this message at 22:50 on May 6, 2011 |

Dr. Goonstein posted:Well, I am no head by any means. I live in the middle of the US so I am not a UK raver or anything, but House and Trance are what got me into Drum & Bass to start with. Kind of just a dance music progression thing. Right now I would take D&B over anything, but I still love Electro-House (not as much House and trance anymore) and listen to a decent amount of dubstep too. This is about where I'm at as well. Prefer drum n bass, but still listen to a lot of electro house. However I was never really into trancex aside from a little Tiesto. And I still listen to hip hop a lot as well. And I'm up in Winnipeg, Canada. If there is a DnB scene here, I know nothing of it.

Focusing on the sound introduced at the 1:05 drop. The sound seems so familiar to me, just can't place it at the moment. I want to say it reminds me of Concord Dawn or maybe even Pendulum, but that doesn't seem right. Regardless, I'm really enjoying this album, but definitely not any more than Polyphony.
