Paul Kersey posted:Hey guys. I'm looking to get into some more Drum & Bass. Would it be too much to ask for someone give me a top 10 list of what they think are the definitive Drum & Bass albums (if that's even possible)? There's too many different subgenres of DnB to compile such a list, plus everyone's tastes are different. Personally, i'd get Hold Your Colour by Pendulum and then branch out from there. As I posted in the old thread, Liquid DnB is pretty big at the moment and there's a LOT of it out there. As for compilations, get Nightlife 2 by Andy C. You won't regret it. His other Nightlife compilations are great as well, but Nightlife 2 has something for everyone. EDIT - TC's Evolution is indeed, a killer album.

Urban Wizard posted:Sorry to keep bringing up Pendulum in here Don't be. If it wasn't for Pendulum, DnB wouldn't have HALF the exposure it has today. True, they're no longer really DnB, but even the most hardened hater cannot deny the fact that they've had a massive influence on the entire genre. If you're after a sound similar to Pendulum, try The Qemists. 'Hold The Q' is a really good album and the similarities with Pendulum are immediately apparent. The Perfect High could easily have been an early Pendulum track and the drop is just SICK. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Q0fzCMILiI Speaking of sick drops, why the gently caress has this never been released? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3QoKhXFSo4 Dell_Zincht fucked around with this message at 23:18 on Apr 29, 2010 |

'Confidential' is pretty loving sweet as well, as it gathers the best of his other three albums and the other disc is all remixes. His remix of Adele's Hometown Glory is fantastic, hell, as established, everything he touches turns to gold.

Immunize was played last night on Zane Lowe's Drum n Bass Takeover. For those not in the know, it's the collaboration between Pendulum and Liam Howlett of The Prodigy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pF3w10FYHs It's loving naughty.

It's definitely my most anticipated album of 2010, I'm really looking forward to hearing the studio version of Ransom, that track has been the one I keep going back to the most. EDIT - Just realised Ransom's been taken off the album. Gutted Dell_Zincht fucked around with this message at 19:59 on May 4, 2010 |

For gently caress's sake can we please not allow this thread to go the same way the electro/synth thread always does? DnB has gone mainstream. Get over it.

Looking forward to hearing the rest of The Vulture as well, I really like the melody of that song.

Welp, Immersion has leaked, and it's not the crappy version from a few days ago with the Matter preview material included. All i'll say is it's pretty much what I expected, and I don't regret pre-ordering the deluxe edition. Someone in the band really needs to tell Rob to stop singing, though. Rageaholic Monkey posted:Oh no doubt Part I and Part II together sound really loving awesome though, they flow into each other really well and the refrain from I in Part II works really well. Self Versus Self sounds nothing like a Pendulum track at all, it's really going to alienate most Pendulum fans. Not me though, I dig it (not just as a metal fan, either.) The same drum break in every song *is* very noticeable, though.

Nobody is claiming Pendulum ARE DnB, but they started out DnB and you can't create an entirely new thread just for the release of one album. There isn't a single DnB song on the whole of Immersion, I don't think you'll find anybody disputing that fact. But talking about it in the Electro/Synth thread probably wouldn't go down too well. Personally, i'm not at all disappointed with Immersion, but then again, I wasn't expecting a DnB album like some of you seem to have been.

My advice would be - Don't. It looks retarded (unless you're really good at it, but even then, you look like a poser.) Just dance how the music makes you move naturally.

Dr. Goonstein posted:So i'm totally new to Drum n Bass as a genre. I discovered Pendulum a few weeks ago and loved them, as i look for bands that cross Rock and electronic music a lot. Aww, a DnB babby, awesome Seriously though, if you want to get into DnB, my strongest recommendation is definitely Hold Your Colour. It's the album that a lot of people cut their teeth on (me included.) It sounds nothing like In Silico or Immersion, though. If you like the rock/dnb fusion, you'd be best off listening to some tracks which are either collaborations or remixes. Stuff like Lost Weekend by The Qemists, although having said you listen to them you'd know that already. There's a hell of a lot of different genres of DnB (Rageaholic Monkey posted an in-depth in the OP) so just go through it and pick out what you like. You won't like everything. Liquid is really easy to get into, as is Jump Up. Unrelated - Didn't see this posted, Netsky's remix of Swedish House Mafia - One http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxy3-sB9Jw8

What the gently caress has happened to Fresh? He used to have some heavy as gently caress tunes, such as Signal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDM8shYzXNg This is his latest single. Seriously, what the Christ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-vWg0Oue6w Now, there's an original version without the lyrics which is a vast improvement, but seriously, that's the standard he's dropped to? loving hell. Anae posted:Stop hating on Fresh. I respect that guy so much, he's the most versatile producer I know (speaking as someone who is nerdy as gently caress about d&b). No two of his tunes ever sound the same. Listen to Acid Rain, off the same album as Gold Dust (album's called 'Kryptonite'). loving huge tearout beast. I'm genuinely really happy he doesn't just make the heavy stuff (Signal, Heavyweight, Acid Rain etc) that appeals to the heads, he branches out and genuinely keeps things fresh (har har) with every tune he releases. I'm not so much hating on Fresh as expressing ridicule that his tunes are now being marketed to the moronic Ministry of Sound dnb-lite crowd.
