You might like Ulterior Motive's new tune 'Tesla'. Irritatingly its not on youtube, comes in at about 51:00 in this mix. http://soundcloud.com/subtitlesmusic/subtitles-podcast-003-teebee

edit: you might enjoy quite a lot of tunes in that podcast actually! Calyx & Teebee have a new album coming out very soon that will hopefully feature a lot of tracks in that style but theyre keeping everything big time under wraps so the tunes are still fresh when they come out.

also, Billain is making some really interesting music in this vein

For me, it's mostly just too plain. I like a little darker stuff - but it needs to be powerful. Corkscrew by Mattix & Futile is one of my favorites right now and it could kind of be considered a little darker. I like some Noisia tracks - Shellshock and Friendly Intentions right now. Both of those are kinda dark and awesome.

I like just what you said about it. It's euphoric and really makes you wanna jump around and just have fun. I just don't get the same effect from the plain jane poo poo. Poon by Sub Zero for example. I have no clue how that song got popular because to me it just sounds like unoriginal plain music. I cannot get into it whatsoever. It's the same reason i can't get into the original 90's DNB and poo poo. Just too plain for my tastes.

I completely agree with you about Sub Zero - Poon. That tune is shite and I really dont know why people are bumming it at the moment.

Fair enough though :) haha its funny how we hear the same tunes and come to completely different conclusions. I guess thats the nature of music... for me the euphoric stuff sounds really plain. For example, this tune that you posted a little while ago

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpimMg3ygbc

is a great example of the kind of tune that bores me to tears. There's no groove to make me want to dance, no swing, no interplay between the bass and drums in the track. In a lot of these euphoric liquid tracks i feel like the drums are almost just a framework to play a big melodic synth over rather than playing any meaningful part in the track.

On the other hand I can definitely see how you would think a lot of the dark/minimal stuff is plain! There's a lot of fairly dry stuff out there.

What do you think of this?

Jubei - Gateway
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8mrDHbqNGU

or this one? (especially the second drop)

Octane, DLR, & Survival
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irG5KUvWNUU

These are tracks that maybe dont have a huge amount of power or melody, and I can see how you could think they were plain, but for me the basslines have so much funk and groove and they interact with the drums in a way that gets my head bobbing whether i like it or not.

Id love to hear what you think of these tunes as well, if you havent heard them already. I'll try and pick powerful ones that are definitely not plain:

Spor - Aztec
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2UBYA_dRlY&feature=related

Noisia - Stigma
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=au_BUnGWquA

(sounds kind of similar to Mattix & Futile - Corkscrew actually)

Siren - Snorkel
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYyw41ZV9MI

Noisia & Phace - Program

Ingredients is such a good label. I haven't made any of the recipes yet though, need to get on that lol. I think they have a compilation coming out soon, or did it already come out?

Yeah ingredients is a quality label, they're really putting out some amazing music and you dont have to be an established producer at all to get a release on there they really go for the fresh talent. Just to clarify for everyone, each vinyl release comes with a food recipe written by the artists who made the tracks. Haha I'm gonna try and make skeptical's tuna steak & herb mash at some point...

Yeah theyve got a compilation called "Ingredients Recipe Book Volume 1" coming out on the 6th of june, I think theres 15 tracks on the CD and they're doing 4 seperate 1x12" releases for the LP. There are some awesome tracks on there, will definitely feature a couple in my five!

You can listen to all the tracks here: http://soundcloud.com/ingredients/sets

As a taster this is the A side of the first 1x12"

Krakota - Be Myself

You should definitely check these guys Cursa out. I dont think theyve had a release yet but they've got an EP forthcoming on Hustle Audio with some proper futuristic techstep tracks. Theres clips of the tracks on Hustle audio's soundcloud here http://soundcloud.com/hustleaudio/tracks

These two tracks especially, Twilight and Connections are ridiculous.

Definitely gonna be keeping an eye on these guys, can't get enough of this kind of dnb at the moment!

edit : This track http://soundcloud.com/hustleaudio/cursa-deep-response is ridiculous as well and might even appeal to jungle fans a little bit. In fact the whole ep is amazing definitely check it out!

This podcast is awesome.

Lenzman feat. Riya Metalheadz Podcast 31

It's an hour of mostly chilled out rolling liquid with Riya doing some gorgeous singing/mcing over it. Definitely check it out, especially if you've never heard a set from Riya before her vocals are really fresh!
