Check Craigslist in your area and see what other people are selling them for.

It's a shame the Ruckus fad died out, I was really hoping it would lead to something bigger. The Grom has sort of replaced it, but it's just not the same.

I dunno, I'm in the MKE Ruckus Facebook group and they are buying and selling and starting new builds and parting old builds out every day.

I wish the scene would have done more cool engine stuff. Every single Ruckus build is some very slight variation on the default Ruckus recipe:

1) GY6 motor
2) Stretch it
3) Slam it
4) Fat tire kit
5) Tiny blingy USD forks
6) Disk brake kit

And that's it. Over and over and over

Show me a Ruckus with a 650 Burgman motor swap. I can't hate too much because seeing custom Rucks everywhere isn't the worst thing and it gets people thinking about scooters, but it'd be cool if more people deviated from the formula

Maybe it just seems like it died because they moved from forums to Facebook.

There was that Ruckus with the Silverwing motor that someone on TotalRuckus made pretty early on, but it wasn't the neatest job. Plenty of cool stuff in Japan though. http://motor.geocities.jp/sonic_crafity/zoom.htm

[EDIT: Christ I need to buy another scooter. I like my Chaly but there's just something about the CVT and the flat floor that I really like.]

Riding a bike that's too slow always feels way, way more dangerous. You have car drivers getting frustrated and trying to pass you where it's not safe and if you can't go on the freeway you have to go through a lot more intersections.

If it goes 40mph it's probably already been derestricted, or was never restricted in the first place. Some new weights and a multivar are a good way to get a few extra mph out if it with basically no downside.

How difficult is the install for someone who only has a basic socket set, normal household hand tools, zero experience, and paranoia of screwing up and dying in a fiery wreck?

It's pretty easy. The only difficult bit is cracking the nut on the variator, but if you buy or make the special tool to do that you shouldn't have any problems.

This is probably the first electric bike I've seen that looks interesting and isn't outrageously priced. I'd love to try one out.

This is the main draw for me, my city has a really good network of paved cycle trails that it would be ideal for.

As for where to discuss them, this seems like the right place for that one. Seems more similar to a moped than a bicycle. Other types might be better suited to other forums though.

Is the Honda Reflex a decent scooter? I read about the 25-40 mph dead spot and I'm confident I could replace the variator rollers. There's 2005 models at equal or lower price to 87 helixes & elites on my local cl, I'm wondering if those will inexplicably appreciate anytime soon.

I used to have one and it was a great scooter. The dead spot really isn't that bad either.

Although obviously not nearly as cool as a Motocompo, those folding electric bikes probably fill the same niche.

I've always wondered about the fuel smell in those cars. If you park in the sun on a hot day are you going to gas yourself when you get back in?

I was thinking of the slightly bigger ones, but that would work too. As all the real ones seem to be made by noname companies, here's a BMW concept.

I've had a few scooters that only had a centre stand. I kinda preferred it, it was always the first thing to scrape on my old DD50.

Unless there's a part missing you shouldn't need washers. You might have the mirror screwed in too far/not far enough, try loosening/tightening it a turn or two and then adjusting the nut.

A Metro must be faster than a Spree, right? CVT vs single speed has to make up for 4t vs 2t.

open24hours
Jan 7, 2001

Don't you have to swap out just about every single part on a moped to get it up to 70mph? Probably a similar amount of work to a GY6 or Dio engine swap.

Spree transmissions look like CVTs but the pulleys don't move. Interestingly (or not), Yamaha went with a chain drive on their single speed Razz.

I just checked the Australian Honda site and we're still not getting the Cub, but they are bringing back the Monkey, and in 125cc.

https://motorcycles.honda.com.au/Naked/Monkey

It's too cool, but also rumoured to be $6k when it comes out (the Grom is just under $4k for comparison).

Just be aware that this generally steps you into "actually requires a motorcycle/driving license/insurace/etc" in most states. Those laws are why 50cc scooters all tend to be a bit overpriced, and 125-150cc scooters can be the best value.

This is probably the only good reason not to get a bigger bike. I rode a modded 50cc scooter for years and I loved it, but it would have been even better on a bigger one.

After ten thousand years I finally bought a new scooter. It's a SYM Classic 125 (SYM Fiddle in the US). I really missed riding these things. The only downside with this one is that my helmet doesn't quite fit under the seat so I had to get the box, but it's pretty handy so I don't really mind.

While those smaller scooters can do 65, they're not a great choice if you're going to be going longer distances at that speed. You'd probably want to be looking at at least a 250.

The Yamaha XMAX might be worth checking out if the lack of a flat floor isn't a deal breaker. https://www.yamahamotorsports.com/scooter/models/xmax. Or a lightly used BMW https://www.bmwmotorcycles.com/en/models/urban_mobility/c400x.html

If it's short trips only then a SYM Fiddle 200 (actually a 170cc) might be another one worth considering https://www.sym-usa.com/models/fiddle_III.html I have the 125cc version of this and while it's clearly built to a price, it's put together well and is a solid bike.

There's a new anime out called Super Cub about a girl and her Super Cub. I don't really watch anime but I checked this one out for the scooters and, well, it's an anime. It's well reviewed, so if you're into anime you might like it. The art sure is nice though.

80 mile range, 75mph top speed, 42hp / 44lb-ft. Looks slick as hell, but that seat looks like it has way less than an 80 mile range imbo (in my butt's opinion). $11,795.

This looks super cool. More than I'd want to spend on a new scooter, but drat it's stylish.
