I'm skipping the Chaplin releases from Park Circus since we'll inevitably get them here from Criterion, but what else should I be considering? I know I must be missing tons of good stuff, so I'd appreciate all the help I can get.

I asked today in a rather large media shop in Europe (Fnac in Ghent, Belgium) for a blue-ray release date for Visconti's Gatopardo (seeing it released for some time in the States and Brittan), and the shop-assistant just looked at me as if had some highly infectious contagious disease (such an old movie in blue-ray?). It's telling for the uptake of the format. Even the mainstream movies in blue-ray format don't seem to be doing so good (of which they carry a rather large selection).

Get of your asses people in Europe! Its becoming frustrating to not be able to buy my beloved more artistic movies in a higher resolution format over here. Normally I wouldn't mind so much shopping oversees via Amazon etc., but for many films I'd rather have good subtitled translations.(/rambling).

Quick mini-reviews of StudioCanal's The Third Man, The Graduate, Delicatessen, and Muholland Drive.


The Third Man isn't a travesty, but it's noticeably less defined than Criterion's edition. The Graduate seems to be a big improvement over MGM's edition, though.

I'm not saying its impossible to watch, but I wont be buying/watching it because its a matter of principle.
