When I did my stint as inbound customer-service for ShopNBC (shopping channel), there was a two-week paid training period before we went live; the very first night, at the very first break, the guy next to me walked off. If there's enough call centers by you, people can spend 3-4 months just doing training sessions after unemployment runs out before they start looking for a real job.
