How easy is it to establish residency in new states where you intend to live after serving? I'm trying to think long term so that when I apply for schools once I get out, I don't have to deal with paying the gap between in state and out of state tuition rates.

Don't you have to be let go/fired in order to collect unemployment? It's more like you quit (unless you got a medical discharge)

There are probably only 2 or 3 reasons to ever go enlisted over officer if you have a degree, and the only one I can think of is that you couldn't go officer because you weren't selected for OCS (which is fair, having sheepskin does not equal automatic officer).

Also, if at basic training, they demand to see your civilian medical records, do you have to allow them? Or can you say no and let them threaten you with empty threats?

What MOS or rate are you going? How much effort do you think they're going to expend going to see if you lied about your asthma?

If you aren't doing something that requires a TS, they aren't going to get anything besides what you bring to Basic.

Good luck getting opiates, most of the people I know who ever complain about pain are given a bunch of Motrin and told to gently caress off.

Seriously. If your recruiter is giving you a tough time and you haven't visited MEPS or anything with him, I recommend just driving to the next town over and talking to their recruiter and lie lie lie*

How did PFC Marvin B. Clelan earn a bronze star?

Serious question, actually. I recently came into posession of some of my late Uncle's stuff and he was awarded a bronze star for action in Europe in 1944. I'm very curious as to the details of the whole thing because uncle Bruce was the quietest, kindest, gentlest person I ever knew. I have a hard time imagining him ever being mildly upset, let alone bayonetting nazis left right and center.

I can find his serial number, probably, but where can I find a record of the commendation that lead to him being awarded the medal?

If you can get his next of kin to do it, I think this would be the best option: http://www.archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records/get-service-records.html

What happens to you if you get hurt in the process of OCS or WOCS, specifically in the Army? I was talking to my chief today about the WOFT program, and he gave me the sob story about how he knew some IT that got into the WO program in the Army from CG, got hurt in the process (I imagine WOCS) and they booted him down to PFC for the rest of his time in the Army (after leaving the CG at E-6). I told him I would look into it because I didn't want to blow him off. Is he blowing smoke up my rear end? It seems silly to throw away a potential WO because he needs to heal for a few weeks or whatever.

I don't know about WOCS but in OCS if you can't complete it but can still be retained by the army then you will be enlisted as needs of the army and be whatever MOS they really need at the time. They don't keep you at a rank, but you could stay an E3 if you suck.

Can't complete it because of academics or because of injury? I just figured if you were hurt they stuck you in whatever the OCS version of medical holding element is.

Then he better not be lighting some E nothing up when he sees them do the same thing. A douche senior enlisted would blow off a salute, a douche junior officer would call him out on it.

So I reported to A-School, and decided to look at my last paycheck (for the last two weeks of October), and I found out they gave me BAH when I had previously received none. I like money but I don't like getting in trouble. My current plan is to open up a new account, put the BAH money into there until they wise up and just give them the bank account number to take it all away. Would that be enough of a good faith effort so that there won't be a hammer dropping down on me in case some angry yeoman comes knocking on my door wanting this money back?

It seems like if they dock it from my next paycheck then giving it back doesn't matter anyway. If they just dock it without saying anything, I'll just take the money out and kind of use it to supplement the money lost from the docking, basically evening out the whole thing.
