It's not like people will mind trainers like these in most places. To me they do scream "US tourist", however. It's a type of shoe that's specifically made for some athletic activity. Taken out of that context they do make you stand out. I had a look at the Asics website and they seem to have a lifestyle brand, Onitsuka Tigers. Sneakers like these, while not actually suited for serious athletic activity, are a-ok in all but the most formal contexts.
