safetyStanddown posted:I used to be a Pashto linguist. I kept up my "real" Pashto skillz by being in Afghanistan. This lowered my DLPT score from 3/3 to 2/2+, but I dgaf cause I made E-6 in the USMC in under 8 years and was about to get out anyway, plus I'd always had native Russian and Ukrainian skills at 3/3 or higher the whole time I was in, so FLPP was maxed no matter what. Yeah I went to DLI pre2011 for my Pashto skillz, but RC West or whatever they renamed it mostly speaks a weird mixture of Farsi/Pashto so I had a hell of a learning curve. But considering I mostly taught myself Egyptian Arabic in secondary school I caught in fairly quick

I'm calling BS. If my time at DLI taught me anything she ran away because she got tired of weirdos creeping on her, or got knocked up by one of those weirdos. "fasting for 40 days in the Forrest" is code word for "going to Mexican back room abortion clinic to get this embarrassment out of me" Also why are they wasting resources on someone in the reserves? We expect our reservists to yknow, have a skill that they use in their everyday life. And Korean at that, wtf you guys love blowing money on idiots. son gay. so what fucked around with this message at 23:09 on Apr 25, 2015 |

Androies posted:If you haven't realized the military hates money by now there is no hope for you. My buddy I went to Goodfellow with who is in the Florida National Guard is literally on TDY to Germany for his language refresher course. I just don't get it, we have reserves but they've usually done at least a year of 'active' duty and have a skill that they use on a daily basis than can be used on peacekeeping operations. German language is so off our radar for operationally useful languages same with Korean, that we can just get a civilian to fill that slot if need be. Slavic languages/Arabic languages/Pashto/Farsi/Dari are the only ones we will shell out money for people to learn and we have a hard time with that.

Androies posted:Guess I should have specified, my buddy is a Farsi linguist. Yes, they flew him to Germany to study Farsi. Lmfao. Okay it makes more sense he's a Farsi linguist I assumed he was a German linguist. But lmao they flew him to Germany for his Farsi refresher? I go to Morocco for my MSA/Darija refresher course and just hope I don't get kidnapped. We've been doing local courses now I believe we no longer send people to DLI
