Happydayz posted:1) interns with the federal government get paid a salary and benefits commensurate with their work experience and education levels. Not all interns get paid actually. I couldn't find the direct post you were answering with this but when I interned with the DoS at a consulate in Japan, I was the only paid intern among the 5 of us they had for the summer. I think it was probably because I was a graduate student and the other interns were all undergrads but I'm not entirely sure. It was a good thing though because I probably wouldn't have been able to do the internship if it had been unpaid. Also yay I got a response back from all three positions I applied to in the CEP. Has anyone filled out the questionnaires for the CEP yet? How long did it take you and what kind of questions did they ask? Edit: Nevermind, I decided to get off my lazy rear end and just get it over with instead of pushing it back another day. Sirotan fucked around with this message at 02:09 on Aug 3, 2010 |

Gravel Gravy posted:It was pretty straight forward. Mostly about your experiences like "Do you have working experience on projects taking upwards of six months" or "Have you ever led a team on a short term project" and other stuff. Thanks. I was mostly dragging my feet because I was dreading open-ended questions that would require long essay answers. Also, these are the best kinds of questions: 3. Please fill in "A" for this question. A This is the correct response.

Kase Im Licht posted:How do they check up on your answers to the questions they ask? Will they look at your resume and see if they could possibly be true? Ask in the interview? From what I've heard for some jobs you won't even be considered unless you have a score of 95 or above. You want to put the highest (best) response for every question you can if possible. Just remember you can take experiences from school, clubs, social activities, hobbies, etc to answer the questions. Last night I filled out the assessment for passport specialist. I had already applied to a similar position 6 months ago and it had stored my score from that test: 93. I decided to try it again to hopefully get a better score. I hope I made the right choice.

So who else dreads clicking on this thread when you see there are new posts, because you think they might be people saying they got a response from the CEP and are being referred to the hiring managers, while you did not? Yeah because thats me.

CherryCola posted:People are starting to get replies for that? I applied to a CEP thing like three months ago and haven't heard a word since. About 3-4 weeks ago they sent out emails letting you know if you made it to the next round. Then you had to fill out an application online, and were told after you submitted it that you'd hear back whether you were going to be referred to a hiring manager or not within 5 weeks. So it looks like you are SOL for this round, sorry.

At least my email said something similar to that. Heres what all of mine said: quote:Within 5 weeks, we will notify you regarding whether you are being referred to the hiring officials or not. We will notify everyone regardless of whether they are being referred or not. Received these emails on July 25th.

Got all excited a bit ago because I got some emails about the CEP vacancies I applied too. It was just the results of the assessment that I decided to re-take. I'm glad I did too. At the time I had a score of 93, and if you re-take it the new score will wipe out your old one, good or bad. Well, now I've got a 97!!

Jesus christ. I got all excited for a minute thinking I got a 97 for the Detroit job, but no. Thats the one I got the email for yesterday and its a whole loving one point lower, 96. Guess I'll be answering every question with a yes come January.

Well I'm not really sure what else I can do at this point. Its called the "Career Entry Program" so they assume you want to enter into a career in the State Department. I have a Masters, I've even interned at the State Department. How do I enter into a career in the federal government if they are only taking people who already have careers in the federal government?

Corbet posted:What kind of answers is the IRS is looking for with these types of questions? I don't think this is something specific to the IRS but I imagine they are going to look to see if you can first work out the situation with your coworker before you involve your manager into the dispute. There are plenty of varieties of this type of question ("Say you have a problem with a coworker, what do you do first to resolve it?"), they are looking to see if you can handle conflict yourself before you tattle to a supervisor. So basically you are going to want to answer option #4.

Anyone know when the Career Entry Program is accepting applications again? Its usually January and July and I haven't heard a peep about it yet this month. I just looked at the State Department's website and it looks like they redesigned it and info on the CEP has now disappeared. Did it get eliminated along with the intern program? Edit: God drat, it was eliminated. After the fiasco last time I was really pissed off and had hoped I'd have a better shot the next time around. Now I am really disappointed. I got a 96 on the assessment, and the cutoff for Detroit (the lowest of the entire thing) was 97. Not that I'm still bitter about that or anything, nope.

You guys are making me feel a bit discouraged. I know some FBI Special Agent positions require two/three years of professional work experience besides the education component which I've just recently completed. I was hoping to start the application process soon and (hopefully? maybe?) get in with a couple years. I know the sequester isn't helping matters here but I was still remaining hopeful...am I deluding myself or should I just expect an uphill battle?
