I'm now curious about how iceberg sleaz knows that his neighbors want to rob and kidnap him and when he was kidnapped and thrown into a hole. Is he a member of al-Qaida or something?

Dominion posted:I believe he's using "kidnapped and thrown in a hole" to mean "went to prison". Probably. The more interesting part is still the "I knew people wanted to kidnap me, but they couldn't because I know my poo poo." It just reeks of "Internet Toughguy" and seems to be trying to make the point that we can all just bootstrap ourselves out of being attacked. (Sort of like the hyper-advocates of CCW, except there doesn't seem to be any endorsement of weapon ownership.)

Alhazred posted:So people really believe that AC is worth being locked up? Every day I become more and more happy that I don't live in the States. There are a great number of people who would gladly live in a box and poo poo in a can as long as the box next door didn't have a can. I once talked to a guy who almost lost his house to his medical bills and he still didn't want socialist healthcare for the illegals. He would give up his home just to make sure people he didn't think deserving of care could get it.

Not that inmates shouldn't be allowed to vote (because everyone should) but prisoners voting brings up a whole new variety of gerrymandering. Can't draw the district lines where you want them? Just move 10,000 people across the line!

There's also the DMCA; if you broke any sort of encryption or other form of anti-circumvention to make the copies, then you're on the hook for that for up to 5 years in prison.

EvanSchenck posted:There was a fairly infamous incident that went before the Supreme Court of Canada, USA v Cobb, where American prosecutors were trying to get Canadians extradited to stand trial in the USA for mail fraud. One of the prosecutors went on Canadian TV and admitted to threatening Canadian citizens with prison rape if they didn't agree to immediate extradition. As in, waive your rights and come to the USA immediately, because if you make us actually go through the process of legally extraditing you, we're going to convict you and send you to a terrible prison where you'll be raped. The SCC determined that you have a right to contest extradition, because duh, and that making insane and extravagant threats was an abuse of process, so the guys weren't extradited. Most countries do refuse to extradite to the US for capital crimes unless there's an agreement to not seek the death penalty.
