I'm a big fan of the Adam Carolla show, WTF with Marc Maron, the Monday Morning Podcast with Bill Burr, and the Joe Rogan Experience can also be really good as long as he's talking about comedy and not MMA. The Nerdist can be great but it depends on the guest. Did anybody hear the recent WTF when Maron interviewed Patrice O'Neal? poo poo got pretty heavy in that one, O'Neal talked about his youth and his statutory rape charge and his time in prison, and how hosed up he is because he never had a father. Also he rags on women a lot, while Maron nervously chuckles along. It was one of the more entertaining WTF's I ever heard. http://wtfpod.libsyn.com/ (episode 95) Also, the Ricky Gervais World Cup Preview (free on iTunes as opposed to his other pay stuff) had some great moments, like when Karl Pilkington talked about how he spent 15 minutes in his garden "just slathering".

For fans of Ricky Gervais' podcasts I can't recommend highly enough checking out Pilkipedia, which is exactly what it sounds like, and grabbing their old XFM Radio shows. The format is a little different, they play music that whoever recorded the shows edited out, but I actually kind of prefer them to the podcasts now. There's a higher energy, and the dynamic between Karl, Ricky, and Steve seems fresher and less antagonistic. (For those that say they think Ricky and Steve are mean towards Karl, I direct them to the radio shows, because it's much more obvious that they're just three guys ribbing each other, and Steve gets it just as bad, if not worse, from Karl.) Witness the birth of Monkey/Knob News, the slow and truly amazing evolution of Rockbusters, countless insane stories from Karl's childhood, the horrible gifts he's given to Suzanne over the years (value pack of condoms being my personal favorite), Steve's worst attempts at wooing ladies ("I thought the bow-tie made me look urbane, like a character in a P.G. Wodehouse novel"), and more high-pitched laughing from Ricky than you can stand. Plus for people like me who were just fiending for more Karl when the rate at which they put out podcasts slowed down, the XFM shows are half an hour to forty minutes longer, and there are like ninety of them.  (To any mods: I don't think this is a files issue, because the radio shows aren't for sale anywhere, and both XFM and Gervais himself have been aware of Pilkipedia forever, but if you disagree I'll gladly take this post down)

Jordan, Jesse GO! is pretty hit or miss to me. It's consistently pretty funny, but something about Jesse rubs me the wrong way. He also has a way of meandering way too slowly to the punchline of his stories at least once an episode. As a sidenote, the episode of this with the UYD guys was terrible. Stop Podcasting Yourself is pretty much just a better JJGO. Same type of humor, just with less obnoxious hosts. Also the guests are Canadian comedians you've never heard of, but that's ok because at least that means I haven't heard them on every other comedy podcast. Doug Loves Movies is incredible. I think people have said enough about it already though. WTF with Marc Maron isn't very funny most of the time but Marc does great interviews. SModcast is gratingly vulgar, but still funny enough to listen to once in a while. I tried Uhh Yeah Dude earlier this week and couldn't get into it. I'm going to try again today because the praise for it is ridiculous ITT. I'm curious of all the podcasts recommended here what is one that everyone just couldn't enjoy or eventually ? I listened to Jordan, Jesse, Go for a few months but it had consistant stretches of boring "segments" in every episode that I just couldn't take it. It's weird because when either of them are on Never Not Funny or the one time I heard them both on Adam Carolla, I loved them! It's weird, I'm not gonna lie. I also ditched Adam Carolla for similar reasons. That and his opinions can get grate my nerves.

One of my weekly favorites is Tell 'em Steve-Dave. Now I know a lot of people don't care for the Kevin Smith brand of comedy but you at least have to try this one. The 3 hosts Brian Johnson, Walter Flanagan, and Brian Quinn are amazing and have far better chemistry than Kevin and Scott. Each episode mainly consists of them straight up bull making GBS threads about any random topic,news piece, or hilarious story from their past. I enjoy this podcast leaps and bounds over its parent podcast Smodcast. Where Kevin usually dominates the mic, and almost each scenario he and Scott come up with just end up with a dick sucking punchline. TESD is an excellent listen and I highly recommend it over Smodcast. Notable episodes are: Episodes 12 & 13 where the hosts go and interview various long term sellers at the Collingswood flea market. They play a portion of the interviews and then commentate/riff on what was spoken. Highly entertaining and the 2 episodes together clock in at nearly 6 hours, so if you have a long commute like I do, episodes like these are a Godsend. http://www.smodcast.com/stevedave/

To me both of those things are just signs of lazy podcasting. Comedians talking about the only thing they know, and dragging on their friends so they don't have to come up with anything to talk about. I think I would be less jaded about guests if they weren't the same people near constantly. Chris Hardwick seems to do a great job getting guests no one else does on Nerdist, but on the other hand, he's probably the worst offender when it comes to rambling on about standup.

This thread is great--I'd gotten bored with some of the podcasts I was listening to, so these suggestions come at the perfect time. I'm burning through a bunch of the Doug Loves Movies shows and it's weirdly compelling. I've been listening to the various Kevin Smith-related podcasts since the beginning. Smodcast has gotten weird, with fewer interesting stories and more whining about his weight and giggling over Fleshlights. Tell 'Em Steve Dave is more entertaining for me, because it's a new set of stories and the guys good-naturedly fight with each other and give each other crap. Kevin comes across as so pitiful nowadays that it would seem cruel if his friends were ragging on him, so that back and forth is mostly gone. That one episode where his wife was consoling him after getting kicked off the Southwest flight was just really uncomfortable and sad. Here's one out of left field... The Vinyl Cafe with Stuart McLean. Just recently available on iTunes as a podcast. I've often described it to people as a Canadian version of A Prairie Home Companion, except McLean isn't as preachy and bitter as Keillor has become. The format is similar, with music, reading letters from listeners, and a portion where McLean tells a story, usually based around a fictional family headed by Morley and Dave, who used to be a roadie for bands in the 70s and 80s and now runs a tiny record shop. This is more folksy and family-friendly than most of the podcasts listed here, and there's some Canada-specific humor, but if you're curious I'd suggest checking out one of the funniest stories McLean ever told: Dave Cooks the Turkey (about 30 minutes long, but it's worth it)

I like the Nerdist, but it does have a couple of faults. Chris does like to talk about doing stand-up a lot, but usually he's aware of poo poo he's already said on the podcast before so it isn't the same loving story a la Adam Carolla. The worst offense though is how much of a god drat cheerleader Chris is; it gets really annoying at times how much cock he's gobbling.

Oy, should I give Uhh Yeah Dude another shot? I only hear amazing things about it, but whenever I listen to it once in a while I am just left cold, maybe I chuckled a couple times. But these episodes were recent, in the 100's? You guys say start in the 70's? That's when they were ON FIRE? Also, I really can't get over how consistently funny MBMBAM is. The guys have fantastic chemistry, are all hilarious, and know how to just layer a joke more and more, and just keep it going. I ALWAYS, ALWAYS laugh until I cry listening to it. RE: Marc Maron's interview with Patrice O'Neal - Yeah, it was totally awkward and uncomfortable, but I think those are Marc's best. Messed up, flawed people are always interesting - And Marc (being a messed up, flawed person himself) plays fantastically off them. I didn't agree with Patrice (obviously), but I was utterly fascinated with his world view. Edit: Guys, I wanna know who your favorite CDR character is?! I think I'd have to give it to Lil' Gary - Those episodes stand up incredibly well, and no matter how many times I hear them, Lil' Gary cracks me up. Stuff Weekly and This Week In The Apocalypse - Two podcasts kinda done by the same people. Stuff weekly is three people talking about weird, ridiculous news stories, though they often just devolve into hilarious chatter. TWITA is a show where, like, seven people discuss how humanity would fare against a certain type of apocalypse scenario. The first two episodes are okay, but it really gets funny around episode 3, "Robots." These are both fairly new, but they're the only podcasts I listen to and I enjoy 'em!
