You Look Nice Today is hands down the very best podcast I've ever listened to. The episodes are timeless, and hold up very well to repeated listenings. If I could be so crass, I'd like to throw out a weekly podcast that I do with my friends called Stand Under the Don't Tree and Riddle Me This. It started out as a college radio show that I hosted, but we went entirely-podcast after I graduated. It's video game discussion (as if there weren't enough of those) with an eye towards comedy. We're just ordinary guys, but the show is a project that I absolutely love doing and I'm very happy with the response that it's gotten over its three year existence. Edit: drat, I didn't mean to hog the top spot with self-promotion. I'll take another opportunity to hype You Look Nice Today. The only bad part about it is that they don't publish episodes frequently enough. Merlin Mann is my hero.

I'm going to plug another one of my podcasting projects, since it seems to be in line with the thread: Those drat Ross Kids It's a show that I do with my brother, in a very similar vein to You Look Nice Today with a little Uhh Yeah Dude mixed in. We're keeping the episodes short right now, but they've been getting a good response. I submit it for your approval, and welcome any feedback. iTunes link.

habanero walrus posted:This post is a little old but I just got through listening to a couple episodes of this, and you guys aren't bad. The only problem is that the music you use for transitions is what I would call ear rape, at the absolute best. Holy poo poo it's obnoxious. I know this was from several pages back, but I can't thank you enough for checking us out. I just put a new one up (usual link, http://thosedamnrosskids.com if any more self-promotion will be tolerated). The music is a sticking point between my brother and I. I'm working on recording something a little less caustic, but what we use right now works as a kind of placeholder. I hope we can keep you around long enough for that. The new You Look Nice Today was amazing. 45 straight minutes of Merlin, Scott, and Sandwich talking about vaginas. Also, I can't thank this thread enough for introducing me to Uhh Yeah Dude.

Whoever recommended going back and listening to eps. 120-160 of Uhh Yeah Dude is my hero. Holy poo poo, I laugh like an imbecile. I find myself accidentally using UYD terminology like "grip" in everyday speech. My secret hope is that someone out in the world will recognize it. Also, I toned down the music for this week's "Those drat Ross Kids," and I'm working with a friend to compose an original theme. There's some good taste in podcasts up in this thread, and I want to be responsive to your needs.

After a regrettable, unplanned two week break, I just put up a new Those drat Ross Kids. We're slowly but surely making our segments longer, and I'm quite proud of the pacing on this one. If you'll abide my self promotion and check it out, it's the one called "The Last Christmas."

So, my brother and I have kept at it, and just last week we put out the 13th episode of Those drat Ross Kids, "Piss Dragons." We found our stride around episode 6, and I'm finding that we're requiring less editing, which is nice. Those of you who were bothered by the interstitial music will be glad to know that the slam cuts are kept to a minimum now, and our earlier episodes now feel like promos. I know this isn't a celebrity podcast, like most of the shows in this thread, but I'm pretty proud of what the show's becoming. Seth really likes calling me back when I leave messages on the voicemail. It's nice, because he always has time to chat for a bit.

I've been mainlining UYD since pretty much the start of this thread. I know everything about Jonathan except for his social security number, yet I don't even know what Seth does for a living.

In goon podcast news, I've created a YouTube channel for Those drat Ross Kids, and I'll be putting up bite-sized segments of our backlog, just in case you haven't been willing to commit to the full 45 minute episodes. http://www.youtube.com/thosedamnrosskids I'll echo the people who have been pumping Stuff You Should Know. They're very informative and entertaining. The nuclear meltdown episode is worth referring to your panic-stricken friends and family.

AnnoyBot posted:I've been listening to Back to Work, Merlin Mann's new project. It's not YLNT by any measure (and also not "comedy") but it's interesting if you enjoy his schtick and have a tolerance for productivity porn. I can't echo this hard enough. It's somewhat out of scope for this thread, but it's a quality podcast nonetheless. I've been a Merlin fan since well before YLNT, and I really like the direction that he's taken with his anti-productivity porn work. Can't wait for his book. Dan Benjamin is living my dream, running his own podcast production company and apparently making a living off of it.

They did an impromptu rendition of Equus wherein Griffin was on all fours, with Justin miming tickling his testicles with a beer bottle while Travis stood by helpless to stop what was happening. I don't know if that will make it into the final episode.

What bothers me is his audio quality during Judge John Hodgman. It sounds like he's talking into Skype over a cell phone. You'd think he could afford to sound better, being that he runs MaxFun and everything.

Vigilantly Vigorous posted:I don't usually listen to video game podcasts, and sorry to derail, but you really have something unique going on with Stand Under the Don't Tree and Riddle Me This. Might I ask how you came up with that name? The joke answer I use is that it's the title of a children's book I wrote once. The real answer is that it's a nonsense phrase I came up with several years ago. When I started doing college radio, I wanted a name that would stick out on a schedule, but wouldn't pigeonhole me into a particular genre, since I didn't know what kind of show I wanted to do at the time.

I can confirm that Griffin, at least, is a big UYD fan. I asked him about it on Twitter, following several usages of the words "respecognize" and "pre-pro" on the show. It's not unfair to assume that the others are fans, as well. Justin has told me that You Look Nice Today is a big influence on their show as well. There's nothing wrong with having awesome influences, in my mind. Keep in mind, my own shows take cues from all three of the podcasts involved, so I may just be projecting.
