Although it has already recieved some love here, I find myself laughing the hardest at Bill Burr's Monday Morning Podcast. It's Bill jumping around from topic to topic and leaving a wake of scorched earth as only he can, while somehow managing to come off less hateful than his content really is. There's something comically charming about all the dead air and also about how he laughs maniacally at his own jokes while by himself. I also like that he's able to fluidly argue for and against whatever he's ranting about at the same time. He always seems to switch sides multiple times, but it's always funny. He has a way of destroying everything in a hilariously hurtful way from all sides without coming off like a douche. The one thing I miss about the days when he used to podcast from his phone is when he'd literally be walking around town or sitting in an airport talking poo poo about the annoying people around him. It doesn't get any better than that.

It's really surprising that Gallagher walked off WTFpod, batshit insane or not. The last time he went on Opie & Anthony, he was in a really ugly race argument with Patrice O'Neal and was utterly humiliated, considering Patrice's incredible talent at roasting people. It was really bad. See: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icevac7jdig

So for him to take that and walk off WTFpod, maybe Marc Maron being so gosh darn liberal is what set him off in that crazy loving head of his.

I also think it's important to note exactly how high he is every time he does a podcast. (cue Bill Hicks) Rrrrrrreeeeaaallly loving high.

While we're on the subject of Talking Funny, Ricky Gervais and Louis CK were on Opie and Anthony to promote it recently. Also sitting in were Jim Norton, Jay Mohr, and Ron Bennington. It was a great segment, kind of like a mini Talking Funny. You can find it here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Shmp3y7PVyw

After their appearance, Jay Mohr called in on a later show and trashes Louis and Gervais (complete with spot-on impressions), saying they froze out the others like a bunch of freshmen eating with seniors in a high school lunch room. Calls them out on ballwashing each other, ballwashing Jerry Seinfeld, doing the same poo poo to Chris Rock during the special. it's one of the first times that I've heard someone really go after Louie and thought they really had a point. And it's also loving funny in its own right, especially his Gervais laugh, you be the judge of whether or not you think Jay sounds jealous:

Norton is truly a sick little gently caress but a lot of what he reveals on the podcasts is barely scratching the surface compared to what he's said on the radio over the years. At least it all makes sense, he really is damaged goods considering what he was doing sexually at a very young age. Here are some clips to further disgust/entertain you:

Jim Florentine, he who played Special Ed on Crank Yankers, has recently started a podcast. I am enjoying it a lot, the format is similar to the straightforward and probing interviews that Maron does on his WTFpod, except in Florentine's low-key and crass style. It's still a good interview and gets serious at times, but his laid back, immature approach is refreshing and keeps it entertaining. Recommended episodes are the most recent 3, Otto and George, Amy Schumer, and especially Robert Kelly.

The answer from Bill himself is that he is recording later this week, and he thanks you in advance for not sending cunty tweets on this matter. Relistening to the episode he did with Robert Kelly and Joe DeRosa and it's still loving greatness. Joe is so goddamn sensitive and he takes the bait every time. It's almost like that great Uninformed show they used to do for O&A, where Bill's ability to make DeRosa butthurt was nothing short of astonishing

Here's the thing, and I don't know the best way to put this, but a lot of the Deathsquad shows are great. In particular Ari Shaffir's "Skeptic Tank" has had some AMAZING shows where they get one weird person to talk about a specific thing (like a total junkie, or the guy who said 'gently caress trying to get girls, i'm going straight up sex workers')

A lot of the other shows are uncomfortable at best and completely unlistenable at worst. The Naughty Show can get creepy on a gross level because they're obviously just a couple of dudes hanging out with a porn actress and every interaction is... I mean, you can just hear the creepy seeping out of their voice.

I will recommend Skeptic Tank, and Your Mom's House. They are pretty entertaining. In the current ep they talk more about joke stealing while they all do Salvia.

I'm not a big fan of Little Esther.

Little Esther stinks on ice. She is the epitome of every loving awful female alternative comedian out there on the West Coast. Ari's show is okay and anything featuring Joey Diaz is obviously great, but you're really scraping the bottom of the barrel for entertainment with Sam Tripoli or anything Redban does on his own. Porn people on the radio have never been interesting.

Any of you listen to Jim and Eddie Talk poo poo?

Hands down my favorite podcast at the moment.

Absolutely. They've been killing it ever since the focus shifted from having comedy guests like every other stupid podcast to crushing their mildly retarded roommate; so like, ever since the 3rd episode. Their poo poo is really edgy except without coming off like they're purposefully trying to do it, it's brilliant. All the episodes with Brian McCarthy are highly recommended, but especially the first one where he tells the most :gonk: story ever

Yes yes.

Jay Mohr has teamed up with Kevin Smith's Smodcast empire to create Mohr Stories, his own personal podcast where Jay runs wild in his ADD radio style that you may be familiar with as a fan of Opie & Anthony, Ron & Fez, or Jim Rome. Jay is an unbelievable talent behind the mic, combining his skills as a mimic and his uncanny ability to tell a story. In the first episode, he and his longtime friend (and legendary manager) Barry Katz discuss Tracy Morgan, making it in showbiz, Buddy Hackett, Jay getting on SNL, backlash against Jay by other comedians and specifically why and plenty more. Even though it was just the first episode, it was one of the most interesting, honest, funny, and compelling podcasts I've heard recently. He also crushed it on Plus One per Diem as well.

Let me guess... you also love the Joe Rogan and Adam Carolla podcasts.

After 136 pages of this thread I'm pretty sure we could devise an intelligence test based on podcast preferences that would be more accurate than anything Mensa has ever come up with. It would be called the Rogan-Thompkins scale.

Personal taste doesn't come in such absolutes, whether you like the sort of comedy that's prevalent on the East coast or the West coast. Just based on a quick post history, you like Bill Burr's podcast, the Jim Norton episode of Fitzsimmons' podcast, and don't 'get' Tig Notaro, so you can't be pigeonholed as the sort of comedy snob who hangs out on aspecialthing and thumbs their nose at anything not Louis CK or PFT so easily either. Mohr Stories is just sort of the hot podcast right now with a certain audience; maybe they're just tired of Maron's bitching, Rogan being such a meathead, Carolla steamrolling every guest with his stupid loving bits and morning zoo poo poo etc etc.

I like how they've been letting a relatively sober Jason speak more because he's got some funny one liners and his half baked theories on everything are pretty awesome.

When the show devolves into just making fun of Jason it can get a little depressing and somewhat stale. Also holy poo poo does Eddie have enormous anger/rejection issues. I've never seen a guy turn on a girl so quickly like he does whenever a female guest doesn't want to have sex with him.

The episode with Kaylani Lei was surprisingly awesome. I love when they give Jason a lot of room to work his magic and they don't just bully him the whole time. Jim is obviously loving hilarious but Eddie is the epitome of a zero in the comedy world, with his typical outrageous-trying-to-be-Jim-Norton-so-bad-edgy guy shtick, which always comes off as just mean and rarely funny.

I guess that that struck a nerve so lemme just say I am still a fan of the show and have bothered listening to a lot of them, my mileage depends largely on the guests. I obviously have a low tolerance for Duncan Trussell or any of the other pot talk guests (and Eddie Bravo is the loving WORST), but hearing Bert and Joey Diaz shoot the poo poo is fine with me usually. Joe is in the same class as Adam Carolla, Penn Jillette, and Patrice O'Neal as far as being exhausting to listen to ramble on for hours but he talks about cool poo poo most of the time.

Catching up on Jim and Eddie as of recently, goddamn they are so funny. I know I've pooh poohed Eddie before for being too mean, but he seems to be doing a better job of hosting while Jim brings the funny. Jason is definitely going to murder them at this rate

Maron is a great interviewer when he gets serious and takes his guests to task (Dane Cook, Carlos Mencia, Gallagher) but he has been horribly inconsistent lately. The hatchet job on Joe Rogan for doing Fear Factor and being such a dick to Demetri Martin while giving Andrew Dice Clay and Lisa Lampanelli free passes come to mind. He also subscribes to the theory that all comedians are horribly hosed up and boy oh boy does he ever love to project

Actually, come to think of it, Maron posted this today. It's a pretty good read:

What happened to that podcast?

In the beginning it was really funny, Jefferies in particular was hilarious. The interviews were entertaining as all hell, but then at some point it seemed to turn into "Hey famous person, come over and make fun of my idiot friend".

Why would you have Paul Provenza on your show and spend the entire time making fun of an idiot rather than talking to him about his years of history in stand up and the entertainment industry in general?

I guess it's not an interview show anymore, but I don't like it at all.

Yeah the Jason as Karl Pilkington thing has gone along a little too far, but these days the supporting cast is better anyway. I wish I could find it on YouTube, but there was an insane interview with Gallagher on the Howard Stern show a few years ago. He talked about how he was a brilliant physicist, how comedians who had a stool and water bottle on stage were hacky prop comics, and his epic plans to build a chain of indoor family reunion camps. It wasn't an outrageous interview the way you'd think it would be, it was just sad and weird and very interesting. The stuff about his horrible relationship with his family just made me feel bad for him.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=je6EkL7MV5I

Not the one you're looking for, but he's way crazier in this Opie and Anthony segment where they discuss conspiracy theories and his inventions.
  • Gallagher talks about owning the rights to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
  • Gallagher says he has a patent on a toilet that China is building for him
  • Gallagher talks about his patent for new slot machine software
  • Gallagher talks about a shower that shuts off when you step away from it
  • Gallagher talks about a hat for blind people that senses light and gives a little zap when light is encountered
  • Gallagher talks about a solar powered Coke machine

I think he has a degree in Physical Chemistry too? Maybe I'm misremembering that.
