I imagine Mr. Weasley gets better after he interacts more and more with Hermione's parents, but god knows what they think of him.

Was there ever given a reason why Peter Pettigrew got Griffyndor? For someone who's biggest trait is being cowardly surely he would have gotten a different house than the one where courageous is one of it's three biggest attributes.

Harry also seems to not age at all on those covers.

I remember reading some interview or something where Rowling said she was going to go with Triwizard Tournament, but later decided on Goblet of Fire because it sounded better as a title. And Snape was always a huge rear end in a top hat, to the point where he wasn't even a good teacher. He knew all the stuff, but he never really taught the kids or helped them, only ridiculed them when they got something wrong. When Harry takes his OWL he even thinks about how not bad potions is when he doesn't have Snape around.

Trin Tragula posted:Of course he is, he's part of a grand tradition of Harsh Masters going back almost to the invention of the boarding-school genre (and who would have been very recognisable to anyone who went to school in Britain before the 90s; the trope is one of the things that gives the idealised schools depicted in the stories a connection back to reality). There's a reason this exists and became such an immediate, massive, lasting success and cultural touchstone, for instance. This is true, out of all the teachers we see at Hogwarts only like 2-3 are competent teachers.

Astronomy was one of those weird classes we never knew much about, because it was either them drawing charts, or the OWL which is interrupted by Hagrid wrecked Umbridge and Crew's poo poo.

So the gate goes into the forbidden forest? Then again since that forest probably has every dangerous magical creature in existence it's not like you can sneak through it anyway.

Also the last movie, after trying to say that your House doesn't matter and that people can show traits from other Houses and we sort too early, they throw the Slytherins in the dungeons to the cheers and applause of the other students and teachers.

Is it only the movie where wizards have wand holsters? That seems like a good idea, but practical and wizards never work out well in Harry Potter.

Knowing Wizards you don't have to say the words and just mean it, but it's been tradition so long they won't change. Either that or they just really think the Latin sounds more fancy to them. Who would say Float instead of Wingardium Leviosa?

As much as I think it's a weird movie Goblet of Fire does have a nice moment where Harry comes back with Cedric's body and everyone is all happy and excited and the band is playing then 5 seconds later everyone's like "Oh poo poo"

Movie Dumbledore is probably the worst adapted main character. In the movies he's this serious guy who only displays silly moments once or twice, compared to the books where he's this silly relaxed guy until poo poo goes down.

Piell posted:Snape being an incredible rear end in a top hat actually works against his cover, because why the gently caress would Dumbledore keep such a lovely teacher around unless he had some secret reason to trust him? I mean, like, the only reason that Snape got off from going to Azkaban is because Dumbledore vouched for him that he wasn't a total bad guy. But his entire actions show him to (at least apparently) still be the exact same Death Eater rear end in a top hat he was before. If Snape was the only bad teacher that would make sense, but in a school where bad teachers outnumber good ones it's probably a smart cover.
