That was pretty much the DLC from TFU

Exactly that is the whole point. By "True-sith" they mean the original Sith species and dark jedi who fought with Naga Sadow in the Great Hyperspace War. When they lost the remnants fled into the unknown regions to rebuild. Between then and now all the "Sith" that came up like Exar Kun and Revan were just basing their teachings on the Sith way and were not actually bred Sith. These guys are.

That seems kind of...underwhelming. Especially considering the build-up Kreia gave them I was expecting something a little more unorthodox. But that's probably my fault for hyping it up in my own head.

I mean, why would Revan have to go off and face them on his own if they were nothing but another conventional Sith threat. You'd think he could just tell the Jedi there was some wicked poo poo going on over in some unexplored region of space and to prepare instead of going off on his own, cutting ties with everything, and telling no one but a crazy old lady, who may or may not betray him.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, X-Wing and Tie Fighter had live action scenes in them randomly as well. Holy crap there needs to be more of that and I need to dig up those games. I remember a few years ago I went through and beat Jedi Knight twice.. once as a good guy and once as a bad guy. That was so awesome, although the good guy path is the only canon one I assume.
The X-wing and Tie-Fighter cut scenes were cartoons, they were good cartoons though.

Hell yeah new thread. What an appropriate title.

I recently found out that an acquaintance of mine was an honest-to-god "fandalorian" type. He referred to Traviss as Karen and everything. It was so sad. I honestly feel bad for him, he's a nice enough person but christ. After gushing about her books and how the Jedi get away with so much terrible poo poo he went on a rant about the New Mandalorians in the CG Clone Wars cartoon. I regret mentioning Star Wars in his presence (Celebration is in town and on people's minds here, sooo).

I forget who said it in the last thread but I hate Star Wars almost as much as I love Star Wars. :sigh:

The main reason I liked it was because you played as just a badass mercenary, not some lost secret Jedi, or whatever.

It's like Han Solo becoming a Jedi...
Please tell me this hasn't happened :ohdear:
Before the prequels came out and games with a Jedi main character were a dime a dozen, Dark Forces II was the first FPS game where you actually got to wield a lightsaber and use the Force. Anyone who says "it was better when Kyle was just a mercenary" is either lying or they don't remember how awesome it was when the game first came out and you could finally go around lightsabering the poo poo out of random dudes. :colbert:

Jedi Knight was awesome because of the huge sprawling levels and puzzles that made sense. Sure the cutscenes don't look good now, but I thought they were awesome when I was 8.

Poorly acted and overwrought cutscenes are like, the best part about beating those games. They were proper rewards, much like Blizzard's cinematics, and CnC (where the gameplay was poo poo but the cinematics were always the best).

I dig the poo poo out of Jedi knight games mostly cause they look like they belong in OT Star Wars. From Kyle's clothes to the ships, ect ect. Now Star Wars games and such look like they pinch too much from whatever is popular ATM. BSG, Mass Effect ect ect.

I have to say that as below the rest of the Jedi Knight games as it was and as much as the plot made absolutely no sense, I really enjoyed Jedi Academy. Not in the same way as TIE Fighter or KOTOR, but it was just a fun, mindless "run around and use Force powers" game.

KOTOR 2 wasn't as liked as the first because it didn't have a Son Goku character like Revan to play as, and it had a darker story written by Chris Avelone, as opposed to the first game which had Son Goku Revan and a story by Not Chris Avelone. The sassing you get at the very end was priceless.

"What do you mean why is that old lady mocking me I am a Jedi you can't talk to me like that what does she mean about that what did the ending mean one old lady with lightsabers isn't a boss!"

Or something to that effect. It's too bad that Obsidian was rushed, like always, into releasing a beta of what should have been a killer game. More than it was, anyway. :colbert:

In that he was the only character that wasn't straight up copied out of the generic Bioware RPG game, yes.

Apart from that, the aesthetic of the game and the setting in general they mashed together severely grates and the Dark Side was basically a travesty.

I finished the Thrawn trilogy today. It was alternatingly slow (usually when the story focused on Leia) and incredibly tense and awesome (Thrawn). C'Baoth annoyed the hell out of me, except for the final showdown, and I really hope he stays dead.

Quick complaint: I'm expected to believe that some Imperial scientist actually obtained Luke's hand and lightsaber from Cloud City, and kept it for... what, eight, nine years, until C'Baoth wanted to clone it? That's entering Glove of Darth Vader territory right there. I mean, I realize these are a bunch of books about space-wizards in the past-future, but come on.

That being said, yesterday I received a package in the mail containing this:

I can't wait to start reading. Zahn's bad habits as a writer bugged me less and less as I got into the books, and I hope I can gloss over Stackpole's flaws just as easily.

I'm sorry if this has been brought up in previous threads, but they are always a million pages long by the time I get to them - so I'm coming in at page 5 (Forgive me, I'm a very casual Star Wars Fan):

In the original trilogy, I recall a rebel general (kind of looked like a squid) saying "may the force be with you" to the pilots before a Death Star assault. Isn't the force a Jedi thing? Surely, not all the pilots are Jedis. Is it just a little motto they use?

Anyone have any theories on this? Thanks.

Legend of Zelda has been awful lately in case you haven't noticed, and while Bioshock 1 was insightful AND fun Bioshock 2 was a terrible cash-in effort.

Is this supposed to be an appeal to popularity thing? Because I'm pretty sure the prequel movies have made Lucas about 15 billion bucks so far.
