I'm sorry if this has been brought up in previous threads, but they are always a million pages long by the time I get to them - so I'm coming in at page 5 (Forgive me, I'm a very casual Star Wars Fan): In the original trilogy, I recall a rebel general (kind of looked like a squid) saying "may the force be with you" to the pilots before a Death Star assault. Isn't the force a Jedi thing? Surely, not all the pilots are Jedis. Is it just a little motto they use? Anyone have any theories on this? Thanks.

That's what I thought, but then Han mocks both Obi-Wan and Luke for believing in it. Then again, I guess he does come to "believe," so to say, based on the fact his entire family becomes Jedis.
