Firstly, if I bought enough shares in a company, would I become the owner and manager of said company? For example, say that Amazon has 1 million shares, I then went and bought 1.1 million of them, would I then own Amazon?

If a company has a millions shares, you can't buy 1.1 million shares in that company. I don't even understand how you think that could be possible. With 500,001 shares, though, you would have a controlling interest, and you would then essentially own the company. That's basically how hostile takeovers work. I mean, there's more to it than that, but that's the hard part.

...I don't like bed frames because they make too much noise when you're loving someone.

My experience is that women are more enthusiastic about getting into a proper bed than a mattress on the floor. At least once you're past your early twenties. I've also found that most of the noise doesn't come from the bed frame, if you know what I mean. My sample size is way to small to be statistically significant, though.

How is "I think therefore I am" a reminder? What is it a reminder of?

Anyway, the phrase, "that just happened," is usually used to acknowledge that an event occurred, but that it was unexpected or otherwise difficult to process. Humans like to talk about things, especially things that happen. Sometimes humans want to talk about a thing that has happened, but they don't really have much to say about it except that it happened. Also sometimes there's an implied, "but I don't want to talk about how it came to happen, or who might be responsible for it happening."

It's also probably more comparable to "it is what it is," than to "I think therefore I am."

I've been hearing "you're a gentleman and a scholar" for like twenty years and it started getting annoying the third or fourth time, but i have never noticed a spike or dip in its popularity.

The first time I noticed "So... that happened," was Alec Baldwin in State and Main, which came out in 2000. I thought it was a pretty funny line. Does it predate that?

I'm going to replace the sink and faucet in my kitchen. I checked out Home Depot and Lowes, but their stuff feels very cheap. When I look at the reviews for the faucets on the website, they're all pretty low.

I don't mind paying extra for quality, but where should I look? Are there any particular brands I should be avoiding?

There are stores that only sell kitchen and bath fixtures. I don't know what they're called collectively, but they generally have some pretty nice stuff.

I work for a small business, and my company's e-mails keep getting automatically captured by Junk mail folders. Is there a quick fix for this?

Spam filters are catching your company's emails because your company is sending people spam email. The quick fix is to stop loving doing that.

But do you need a passport to travel in time?

It's possible that time travel will be invented, but it will be so far in the future that they just don't give a poo poo about us. How many people would travel back in time to warn people about the Vesuvius eruption? Nobody, because it happened so long ago that nobody cares, and there's nobody left who thinks of that as something that "happened to us." Maybe by the time time travel is developed, the US will be a lovely poor country that nobody in developed countries that can afford time travel cares about.

And what about various genocides? Everybody says they'd go back and stop Hitler, but nobody says they'd go back and help the indigenous people around the world who were casualties of European colonialism. Or if they did, would we really let them use our time machine? gently caress no.

Are you sure it's whale songs and not a theremin? If so, maybe they just didn't have access to a theremin.

Tipping is something you're never going to get a consensus on, especially here. I tip at Starbucks and places like that because I know what it's like to work in customer service. They get treated like poo poo for maybe a little over minimum wage. The least you can do is throw a dollar in their tip jar. Especially if it's a place you go to a lot. I never get charged full price for my coffee anymore, though, so it evens out.

Yeah, but it didn't use up all of your walking. After you rest a while, you can keep walking again.

I think it's possible that "bouncy castle" is a more British term. I've only ever seen those things called "bouncy castles" on SA. When people talk to me about them in real life (in America) they call them something else, but I don't remember what.

It changes it to "bounce house" just like yours does. I don't know how Google knows where you are. I assume they use the same internet magic as those porn ads that tell you lonely single girls in (nearby city) can't wait to chat with you.

Venture Brothers has taken some pretty serious liberties with the biographical information of David Bowie, Iggy Pop, and Klaus Nomi. It's not exactly the same as what you're talking about, but I don't think they've gotten in any trouble over it.

Regular kitchen timers won't usually allow you to set seconds. Roomforthetuna, have you explored the app store for your cell phone. I found some stuff like what you're talking about when I was looking for something to do a running countdown until a specific event.

Maybe this or something like it? Most of these types of apps are free, so just download a bunch of them and see what works for you. If you have an iPhone, I'm sure they have something similar.

There are metal Rubik's cubes in existence. I don't think any have been manufactured on a large scale or by an officially licensed manufacturer or anything like that. I'm not an expert, though.

I think the emphasis on documentation is because it's much more convincing to say, "this is what happened, and I can remember specific details because I started writing everything down once I started to notice things were hinky, so I can tell you exactly what happened and when." than, "yeah, this has been going on for a long time and I remember some details, but some of it is pretty hazy, but I can paint a general picture."
